Rising star of contemporary dance comes to Cornwall

The Cathy Marston Project

Hall for Cornwall

Thursday 7th September

Box Office: 01872 262466

.
Former Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House, choreographer Cathy Marston presents her unique blend of classical and contemporary dance in a stunning triple bill combining music, literature, visual art and fashion.

Before The Tempest… After The Storm draws you into a mythological world where Marston imagines the pre and post story of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. With an original score incorporating extracts from Ovid and W H Auden, the piece contrasts the earthy, primal relationship of Caliban and his mother, Sycorax, with the elegant, ethereal dialogue of Prospero and Ariel.

Inspired by a recent trip to Cuba (commissioned by Channel 4 short films), the World Premiere of Marston’s Arcana, draws on Afro-Cuban folklore music, presenting a vibrant fusion of colour and passion. In an upbeat and sensual play on rhythm and movement, the dancers are set alight with dazzling costumes by award-winning Turkish fashion designer, Bora Aksu.

Originally created for dancers of the Royal Ballet, Traces presents a dance ‘soap opera’ of emotions, bringing alive the music of Yann Tierson, composer of the score for Amélie.

In what is likely to be a sell-out performance, anyone with a passion for modern dance should be sure not to miss the opportunity to see the company while it is in Cornwall.

There will be just one performance on Thursday 7th September at 8pm and tickets are from £8.50 (RV) to £12.75, with concessions available.  For school/college groups (15 or more), tickets are just £6 each. A 50p Theatre Fund payment is added to each ticket sold. Contact the box office on 01872 262466, Typetalk prefix 18001.

Bollywood dance is a diverse, colourful and entertaining form of dance. It is a mixture of styles, from ‘western’ street dance to Classical Indian dance.
In the slower routines, the body is used to form dynamic shapes with a stong reference to yoga. The faster routines are energetic and upbeat and really help with co-ordination as well as getting a good workout!
All ages and abilities are welcome!

Cheers!

Dear Joce,

Looking forward to seeing you at rehearsal on Wednesday from 5.30p.m to 7.30pm.  You will be there!..thank you for mentioning us to James Wilton.  I was also talking to Jason and he recommended him, too. I splike to him last night and he has promised to come on Wednesday as well.  he sounds very confident and then went all shy and said,"Is Joce coming?  I am afraid that I might not know anyone there!"  At last we may have a full cast.

All is well or coming along nicely.  Yours, kay

Transitional Love Objects are seeking two performers with an interest in devising live art to work collaboratively towards a performance at the Exeter Phoenix at the end of January, and then towards an extension of the work to be mini-toured around Exeter, Bristol and London in summer 2006.  We're especially keen to find a nice man, 20s to 30s, who is interested in movement work.

This work draws on I Could Fall in Love With You, which was warmly received at the Cornwall showcase in October 2006.  Absolute Beauty is a piece incorporating film, installation, aerial dance, and all the other lovely skills our creative team will bring to it.  Inspired by a passage from The Rainbow by D H Lawrence, it's about the absolute gorgeousness of love and the way we subvert the world around us in response to love, or a desire for it. It's also about humiliation, betrayal and desperation.

The work in January is unfortunately not paid, but funding is currently being sought for the summer leg of the work: three weeks devising and then a week of performances in London, Bristol and Exeter.

If you would like to know more, please get in touch with us as soon as possible, as we'd like to make devising and rehearsal arrangements around our performers.

Many thanks,

ellie

5ive* Productions in partnership with Pineapple Performing Arts
School, London is staging a workshop for year 7-9's from across
Cornwall on Saturday 14th January 2006 in the St Austell area.

As one of the core choreographers with Rudeye, a leading UK dance
agency supplying backing dancers to the stars, Rie has danced for
various artists including Gwen Stefani, So Solid Crew, Sugababes,
Robbie Williams and Samantha Mumba to name just a few and brings `an
oriental flavour to fusion funk'.

Rie will also be looking for a group of talented young people from
the workshop to take part in a new piece to be showcased at various
platforms throughout the region in the summer term. The new work will
be based on Japanese Pop Culture and will involve students
researching and choreographing the new piece, based around the
workshop led by Rie.

Interested students can expect to experience routines direct from the
stages of CD:UK and Top of the Pops with Rie who specialises in
locking, popping, robotics, hip hop and jazz. Selected students from
the workshop will also have the opportunity to experience Pineapple
Performing Arts School first hand by taking part in the annual Easter
or Summer schools at a discounted rate.

The cost of the 5 hour workshop is £30, sorry no subsidies available.
If any of your students are interested, please contact me on 07960
638743 and I will send you Registration Forms.

Thank you :0)
