I know a bit offtopic and appologies for duplication for butterfly group members
but intersting migration observations.
On 24th, Porthgwarra, Polostoc zawn and Gwennap Head area. Painted Ladies
everywhere, most pale/worn, most flying strongly but numbers feeding on Thrift
on slopes to Gwennap Head itself, just arrived?. Over head, walked NW on
coast path. NW wind. 3 of us walking forward, 20yd apart, did 10 minute
count, 67 Painted Ladies came past going downwind, SE, to where?. Out over sea
or along coast. Didn't all gather at Polostoc zawn on SE coast, would have been
knee deep. Equates to 400 per hour!. Continued 3/4 mile to Ardensawah, same
numbers coming by. The influx over the last few days seems to extend as far as
the Lizard.
Also migrant moths found, 2 Silver Ys, 10+ Rush Veneers, several Diamond
Backs.
Having said all this, no migrant moths in the trap! Frank did have parts of a
Striped Hawk and has seriously gone off Great Tits.
