John Cooke has kindly arranged with the National Trust for us to
search and trap at Poltesco (SW728157) for the White-spotted Pinion
(Cosmia diffinis) on Friday 28th May at 7.30pm. Meet at the car park
for a search for the larva and then some moth trapping afterwards. A
stout stick to give branches a knock and an upturned umbrella or
sheet is required but is not absolutely necessary since John and I
will also be bringing something.
Also, it is proposed to search for the Argent and Sable (Rheumaptera
hastata hastate) at Chevyton Woods (SW794512) on Saturday 5th June at
2pm. The moths are day flying. One of the last times this moth was
seen in Cornwall was at Pensilva on the 26th May 1987 by Dave Gibbon
and Tony Aston photographed one at Clitters Wood on the 1st June
1977.
As usual, for both occasions, if the weather is inclement, please
give Phil a ring beforehand.
