Moth Trap Workshop Sunday 5th March 2006 4pm 'till late
The Parish-Wildlife Project has acquired 3 new `Heath' traps for
attracting moths, making the total of 4 belonging to the project. The
equipment has been bought with some of the funds from a recent award
from the Sustainable Development Fund, operated by Tamar AONB. These
particular traps are easy to transport and suitable for beginners as
they use only a 6w Actinide lamp and will not attract an overwhelming
number of Moths in a single session. They come with a lightweight
battery and a solar switch so that they can be set and left overnight,
if required, in any remote location. We want to make these available
to members from each of the 5 parishes to be used both on a regular
basis near a member's home or on a fixed day in a selected habitat. We
will show members how to use these traps in the field and hope to
develop skills in Moth Id, using support from local moth experts, and
build up knowledge of moth populations in each of the parishes.
Photography could be a key tool in identification of the trapped moths
and we will use the expertise developed by Bill and Alison as part of
the workshop.
