I found a vaporer caterpillar in Newmill too, it was crossing the road just
by the Bodrifty turn off.
I took it home and it emerged a couple of weeks later as a female - a first
for me too.

Subject: [Cornwall Moth Group] A first for me
Whilst out running this morning I came across a moth fluttering around and
then it landed so I could get a good look at it. My first ever Vapourer.
Strangely enough I first came across this species as a larva on 13th
September, 2007 on the coast footpath at Maen Du (SW5239). And probably
again last Saturday whilst I was out running near New Mill (SW4534). This
time it was fluttering around and then disappeared. Looking at my own
records from when I used a moth light regularly, at Paul Semmen's records
from Tredarvah and Frank Smith's book I am getting the impression this is
another species that is becoming commoner. Any opinions?
