I've just joined this list after an enjoyable ride on the line on Bank
Holiday Monday. (Membership application for CRS will be in the post this
Monday).
Number 7 looked superb but it has buffers which are a Talyllyn thing! I'm
sure the answer will come back with BoT requirements or whatever, but the
official line would be useful.
In days of old the Corris locomotives did not have buffers - the buffing
plate / headstock had two wear marks and #4 had wooden beam low down. The
brake van had very small buffers (See The last days of Old Corris page 32).
Where as the carriages appear similar buffers or small pads - india rubber?
(see Great Western Corris page 32) ...Were there any problems reported with
buffer locking on sharp curves?
The thing that puzzles me is the hinged bar (an inverted square U) that
hinges at at or slightly below the centreline of the hook. All of the
locomotives had it, what was the function of it? Was it used as some form of
spacer with the carriage stock? Answers please.....
Best regards
