Aberllefenni

Yesterday I was exhibiting my new 7mm NG layout (Horton Hill Tramway) at the 7mm NGA AGM at Burton on Trent - A very simple terminus layout: run round loop & siding with a kick back. Total 4 points.

In the course of the day I had various conversations about simple NG trackplans of which Aberllefenni was perhaps the most extreme.

I've flipped through my Corris books - so know the basic layout of Aberllefenni - Sometime in the not too distance future there will be a 7mm kit of the Corris engines from Trevor Cousins - Mercian Models. Malcolm Savage has also indicated that a Corris locomotive in 5.5mm scale is on his 'to do' list.

As when these kits become available a model based on Aberllefenni is a possibility - a few basic questions

Approximately how long was the platform ?
Approximately how long was the run round loop ?
How far beyond the level crossing gate was the junction Hengae and Ratgoed quarry branches ?

Thanks

We are collecting a couple of heritage waggons (and the battery loco, although possibly not at the same time) from the quarry, which no longer has a use for...

We have a very nice model of Aberllefenni in the Museum, which (apart from a non-existent window on my house !) is pretty accurate in terms of dimensions. The...

Thanks Richard - very comprehensive - I last wandered up the Ratgoed Valley in the late 70s - I can't recall if 'rail' operations were still taking place....

The rails in the Ratgoed valley were lifted around 1953. Those linking Aberllefenni Quarry to the cutting sheds were lifted in the early 1980s. Richard ... ...
