Alot of people think The Cuzners are closely related or have some connections to
one another. I know in my research, I have been trying several years to even
find the origins of the name. I have been tearing my house apart...for those who
do not know...I moved late last year and have a house I have been packing alone
though I have a roomie. I have MS so although not handicapped, my energy leaves
sometimes to be desired. Actually, have done a great job the last few months. I
should have laid my hands on that National Geographic Kit I bought soon and sent
off my DNA kit to at least start figuring out from my moms side our geographical
footprint many,many,many generations back which might help point me in some
right directions for my continued research.
I have explored the Heugunot rumor with no success. There was talk of a small
country, very tiny never the Swiss Alsac border that was eaten up by War
Treatries that was home to many Cuzners. I have never found that country though
have tried to find maps. I have to find my notes. These were notes from a
conversation from an elderly gentleman on my travels. I make it a point of
phoning every Cuzner in every city I land in wherever I travel as well all the
Mee's my other family name. I have been able to pull bits and pieces of
information here and there. My cousin belongs to the One Guild Name Studies and
as of yet Cuzner is registered but its origins not known. I have explored many
Jewish sites with no success. I have studied the language of names to try and
find out something but no one can figure it out. Some say Norman, some say
German, some say Heugonot. My mother had suspected because such a large cluster
of Cuzners lived only in the south of England which is true and they lived in
Somerset in areas known to be attacked by the Spanish that perhaps it was
Spanish. I am not sure I agree with that. I suspect it may be a Norman name
though it does sound very exotic for a Norman name. However, my mothers people
looked very Viking in appearance. It is so hard to say.

Anyway, I got off track.

We sort of have a few mandates here. One is to assist and support each other
with our searches with regards to finding our ancestors.
I would like to remind people that people that have been adopted into the
Cuzners family are also Cuzners and that blood is not the only tie that binds a
family to one another. If a bunch of decide to pool resources and do a DNA
surname test, then a course people who have been adopted would been exempt.
However, everything else applies. Support helping their ancestors,reunions and
hopefully supporting us as we are a sum of our parts.

I have found over the years, I come across a wealth of material that quite often
does not apply to me but have come across many others with same surname and it
might apply to them. I thought starting this email list was a more efficient way
to not duplicate the wheel.

Always keeping reminding people of your search criteria.

Always, end your emails with signatures with all your surnames associated with
your name...because your Cuzner will be associated with more than one
surname...for example..My Cuzner is also associated with Pickford,Collins.Crisp
and Greenwood...there are more.
However, always keep a signature at the end of your emails if you can remember
at the bottom of each email so people can keep your Cuzner family straight.

Let us know how far you can trace your family geographically. If you can, upload
a gedcom to our files area here. You may upload pictures free here. Remember if
you are from another country, your parents, grandparents, or their grandparents
probably immigrated from somewhere else. There are all sorts of ships
records,census records,etc. to check out how immigrated where and when. It is
detective work.

I hope to get to England this year though a family emergency might postpone the
trip until next year. However, I will be spending a month doing my Cuzner
research finally in England using paper archives. There comes a time when online
no longer is an option.
However, as this group becomes bigger and we get contacts all over the world, we
can start getting each other to do leg work for each other. I can check out
archives here for someone in Australia and so on and so forth. So, I think
people understand now when I say we are bigger than the sum of our parts.

I also think it would be fun one day to hold a Cuzner reunion regardless if we
are even all related. Through marriage,through irth or adoption....lets be proud
of being indirectly or directly Cuzners even though we dont know where in the
hell the name came from yet or what country it even originated from.

Mee has not actually been a cake walk either...and that seems to be
English,Flemish,Irish,Australian and get this Chinese....sometimes there is too
much of a good thing....though I had the name professionally done and they seem
to think Flemish though the Chinese also make a good case. I know when lived in
a certain neighbourhood in Vancouver, got lots of letters from Chinese
Benevolance Society wanting money. If they could have seen this fair skinned
lass with auburn hair that was 5'9'...they would have been quite shocked...I
certainly was no petite,darked haired lotus blossum!!!
