Re: [cuzners_in_their_genes_] Info to share

Hi Jane,

I'd done a bit of research around this family. The parents of James Crisp Cuzner were John Cuzner and Grace Crisp. We can establish this through the baptism register of Frome St John (FSJ) for James Crisp to John and Grace Cuzner on 7 sep 1831. John and Grace 10 other children: Matilda Crisp (1819-), John (1820-1821), James (1822-1822), Elizabeth Crisp ( 1823- ), your James (1826-16 Oct 1898), Samuel Crisp (1828-06 Jan 1877), Emily Crisp (1831-), Jane Crisp (1832-), Caroline Crisp (1836-), Oliver Frederick (1838-18 Jan 1875).

John's parents are a bit harder. We know that John was born in 1790, but there are two John Cuzners born very close together do different parents. The two boys were baptized at FSJ within 6 months of each other. The parents were John and Naomi Hooper Cuzner and John and Mary Greenland Cuzner. After careful research of these two families I'm fairly certain that John h/o Grace was the son of John and Naomi. This John is a Fuller who operates multiple mills around the area. Tax records put him in different places than the other John. John h/o Rebecca Gorrett is a weaver and wire spooler. His son Joseph is also a wire spooler and his brother Thomas is also a weaver. Also of note, John h/o Rebecca has a brother Thomas who's daughter-in-law moved to New York after her husband died and moved into an apartment next door to Joseph suggesting a close family connection.

Here are my notes:

There are two John Cuzner christened within 6 months of each other at FSJ. Here are so notes that lead me to conclude that this John, who married Grace Crisp, is the son of John and Naomi (Hooper) Cuzner.

John Cuzner s/o John and Naomy bap 14 Aug 1790 (freereg)

John Cuzner s/o John and Mary bap 23 Jan 1791 (freereg)

John Cuzner b 1789 (a shoemaker ???) living with daughter Martha Mees (b 1829)

1841 Census - Grace Cuzner no husband, listed with children Matilda (b 1821), Elizabeth (b 1826), Emily (b 1831), John (b 1834), Oliver (b 1837), and Jane (b 1832)
Class: HO107; Piece 942; Book: 9; Civil Parish: Frome Selwood; County: Somerset; Enumeration District: 11; Folio:  ; Page: 5; Line: 17; GSU roll: 474597.

1851 Census - Class: HO107; Piece: 1932; Folio: 204; Page: 1; GSU roll: 221090-221091.

Grace does not appear in the 1861 census. Does this mean that the John in 1861 is the John married to Rebecca?

Much of this information has been passed to me by family members who have long since passed I am trying to establish the facts on behalf of my sisters (did I volunteer or was I pushed) As you can see my name is Jane Cuzner I have two sisters , my father was Raymond Samuel Cuzner his father was Frederick Herbert James Cuzner (known as Herbert) who was married to Harriet Smart.
Fredericks father was Raymond Cuzner who was married to Rosina Udell (or Youdle) she was his first wife, before marriage I believe before marriage she lived with her mother (possibly Maria) in Frome Street. Raymond and Rosina had 9 children Frederick Herbert James (GFther), Kate Louise, Florence Lily, Ellen Rose, Sidney Albert, Arthur Russell, Alfred George, Stanley Roland, Hilda Mary, (I believe the family lived in Spring Gardens Frome)
His second married, one the family did not speak about, was to Alice Collins and they had a least 3 children Leonard, Ernest and Violet. (may moved to London after marr)
Raymond's parents were James Crisp Cuzner and Mary Pickford and they had 8 children including Raymond, a son Francis and daughters Mary, Emily, Rosa, Tabitha, Eva, Mary and Kate. Nothing further back as yet. Regards Jay
