Re: [cuzners_in_their_genes_] I want to apologize for my neglect but my mother died on August 04th,2007

Thanks

In between everything, I have been finding time to do things. I have decided with my inheritance to finally do my DNA study. I have been following a newbie DNA email list and another one a little more complicated but gradually learning things. I also bought a fascinating book on the subject for the lay person that to assist people to help do their genealogy through genealogy.

I am hoping to start a study group through Family Tree DNA though they are based in Texas they seem the most reliable, least expensive and turn all their results back to research. They are also known as FTDNA. The hundreds of people I have been reading about for the last year use them the most and indicate they are the most reliable, reasonable and fastest re getting your results back. It seems there are some rip offs out there. The UK seems a little dear. There is one just locally in Vancouver, Canada where I live but Genebase has been involved with scandal lately so I do not want to touch that one. After great thought and research I have decided to go with Texas,USA even if its in the States.

I am hoping that we can start a surname study as that will cut costs down but more then that create a larger marker study.I can only contribute my mothers dna. Thanks to men having an extra chromosome, they can trace both lines. We need men to explore the male patriarchial line of the Cuzners going back as far as we can. I am also signed up for the National Geographical study and am waiting for a kit though those are on back order. I believe that study is more along the line of geno-geographical studies regarding the migration patterns of my ancestors that go back thousands of years and I am excited about that. I also need some more definitive studies.

Is anyone interested in throwing their lot in and getting studied. I am pretty sure we are more related then we suspect and this is one way to find out.

Renee

Dear Renee,

I am so sorry to hear about the tragedy and trial that you recently went through.  It sounds like a tough way to say goodbye to your mother but all of your effort on her behalf is a testimony of your love for her.

Thanks for being a leader in setting up a means for Cuzners to communicate.  There is a lot of good that will come out of this.  Please don't worry about taking care of other things for now.  The great thing about genealogy is that you can always come back to it.  You've set up the web-site and Cuzners are communicating and learning from each other about their ancestors.  That's a good thing.

All the best,
Rob

My mom, a Cuzner has many of you know had leukemia which has taken
alot of my time the past year died Aug 04. Unfortunately, she had a
fall down her back stairs and after many hours of trying to contact
her by phone, I drove into Vancouver and found her. I have been so
busy non stop with funeral arrangements and as executor probating her
will which I did myself rather then going through a lawyer. I have
also been emptying out her home which believe it not I still have not
completed. My mother was a hoarder and it has been a major task
trying to sort out what is valuable, sentimenta l and should be given
away or donated. I have given away so much and donated trucks loads.
I am also listing the house for sale so that in itself as been alot
of work.I am hoping to get it finished this week and then hire
someone to clean it. It smells of fifty years of mildew and
mothballs. My mom loved mothballs! The house is about 85 years old
though in a beautiful neighbour but I cannot afford to renovate the
house so I am selling it.
Anyway, I digress. I just have been so busy that a routine day is get
up, drive into Vancouver and work on the house or do legal work, etc.,
I must say it was a challenge doing the probate work myself and
dealing with probate court but I am glad I did it. Apparently, I
finished it in record time and people and my bank are shocked how
fast my probate went. Apparently, lawyers take months and mine was a
few weeks.
I think all the work has helped me deal with my grief though being in
the house is very difficult. It is difficult too because everyone I
know works full time so getting help is hard. I had one friend
helping who had to withdraw because her cousin became ill and moved
in with her and she is now nursing her. sigh.....I just get the
heebie jeebies in the house and imagine people walking in there which
I know sounds silly. I now know why my mom hating living alone there.
I did find a couple of pictures. One of grandfather Cuzner, uncle
Ernie Cuzner and Uncle Fred Cuzner back in the eighties so that one
probably wont be very helpful. The first two pictures would be pre-
world II. I finally got a new scanner so I can scan them. My old
scanner would not work with Vista and it appeared diconix was not
going to upgrade the drivers. Having same problem with my printer
right now though its a HP so I assume HP will get around to it
eventually.
Anyway, my friends , I will be eventually more active once I get this
house listed and sold. Just be patient with me. I am finding it
difficult. My dad, brother, sister and now mom are gone so I kind of
feel rudderless. There is no one less though thank God I have one
daughter. No grandchildren yet but one can always hope.
Once the house has sold, I am going ahead and doing the DNA testing
on myself for the female line in my family so that would be the
Cuzner line. I will gladly provide all the results here. I am
positive that we are all somehow related especially us who have
ancestors from Frome,Somerset, England.
Also, now that I will have the proceeds from the house, I am
definitely coming to England next year with a friend and we are doing
our genealogy studies real time as I think I have gone as far as I
can go online. The frome parish has not yet gone on fiche with LDS or
gone online so I actually will have to go to Frome to the Parish and
see the family records. I am very excited at the prospect of going to
see Frome where I know I have family going back to the sixteenth
century.
Keep writing, even if its not genealogy. Lets let each other know our
struggles to find out information or share tips or successes. There
is also a social aspect to this site. Once I recieve my inheritance,
I will also put an ad in a genealogy magazine advertising this site
so we can attract more Cuzners world wide hopefully and that might
improve our odds of meeting other Cuzners that we might be related to.

Renee
