Work seems to be well underway on the Connect 2 scheme to provide an off-road
cycle-link between Port Talbot Station and Afan Argoed cycle trails. This means
it's easy to get to the trails without using a car! I took the 30 min train ride
from Cardiff today to do one of the mountain bike trails, and found several new
sections of cycle path open or being built. The biggest bit misssing so far are
signs to help you, so at present it takes a bit of time to find the way through!
However, it is already possible to avoid the busy A4107 by using the quieter
road through through Cwmafan and at Ponthrydyfen taking the path into forestry
marked Rhyslyn. Those not wanting to do the mountain bike tracks may even so
enjoy the gentle climb on decently-surfaced paths to the two bike centres at
Afan Argoed and Glyncorrwg - both with bike wash and showers. And - especially
near Glyncorrwg - an intoxicatingly scenic setting!
Cheers, Chris G.
