Hi,
I didn't get a chance to cover everything that happened at the Cycle
Liaison meeting due to the lack of time at Monday evenings
CycleCardiff meeting.
Here is a summary for anyone interested :-
Cardiff Cycling Strategy - still under review by the Environmental
Scrutiny Commitee. Still time to input ideas.
Ely bridge - Sustrans have put in a bid and have been short-listed
for a £25M-£50M pot. This would help build an Ely cycle/pedestrian
bridge and numerous other schemes. Funding has to be matched. Second
round is followed by a TV vote to decide winner.
Rumney Trail - some developments happening. Possible chance of £100K
coastal route development grant.
Taff Trail - some barriers being removed on a trial basis for the
benefit of the Pedal Power project. Possible reflective paint
to be used on ramps in the Measured Mile area. Ramps to be reduced to
two smaller 'cushion' ramps with a gap in-between.Funding to possibly
come from Sophia Gardens project (which the council loaned money
to ... )
Ely Trail - further development to take place. Leckwith area
Sports Village - lesiure trail to be developed. On road route also to
be supported though this is likely to be nothing more than advance
stop zones
Consultations - lack of consultation with cyclists regarding West-
side bus corridor. Cycling officer to write to body involved to ask
why cyclists weren't consulted.
Cycling Map - new cycling map to be produced with sponsorship from
Legal and General
CPZs - Canton referendum went against CPZ so the council will not
develop one in that region. This will have a knock on effect to
planned bus corridor. Likely displacement of commuter parking to
Canton, away from Roath/Cathays as a consequence.
Will post formal minutes when available.
Next meeting in May.
Regards
John
