Over the past 25 years the UK has seen a revolution in the development of workforce skills. National Occupational Standards (NOS) and National/Scottish Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQs) have been at the heart of this.
Hundreds of millions of pounds of public money have been spent on developing NOS and N/SVQs. Billions more have been spent by organisations implementing NOS and getting workers accredited with N/SVQs. Has this been a good investment?
Do NOS work? is for anyone who uses NOS and/or N/SVQs to identify and exchange evidence that they work - or that they don't. Anecdotal experiences and case studies will do for a start. Hopefully some people will have carried out serious evaluations and be able to share quantitative information to demonstrate returns on investment.
Do NOS work? is moderated by The Management Standards Consultancy. We actually believe that NOS can - and do - make a difference if they are used effectively. However, we'd like to have robust evidence to support our belief. And we're prepared to be open-minded. If there is a better alternative, please share it with us.
