Re: [Doberman Europe Club] Two males living together?
this is a late reply and i have to appologise for not being on this
site for over 2 yrs but hopefully im back lol.
two male dobies just wont work no matter how they are with other
dogs, they are such a dominent breed that they just wont accept each
other in the house.
many years ago i tried it 8yr old and a 5 month old and all was well
until the youngster became 11 months old and all hell broke out
massive fights.they were 100% fine on neutral territory and could be
walked together but as soon as we got home they had to live in
seperate parts of the house ,if they saw each other through frosted
glass they started.
i learnt the hard way and thought because of the age difference it
would have worked with the younger one taking over but the older dobie
wouldnt back down.
when the fighting starts between dobies for dominancy there is NO
warning,NOTHING triggers it off .
can anyone remember the pet rescue episode where a man had a dobie and
a rescue allowed him to adopt another male into the house ?
the adopted dog was almost paralised by the severe injuries caused to
his back, again during the interview the man said there was absolutely
nothing to trigger the attack, both dogs were lying down and without
warning the resident dog attacked.
it is always recommended to have no more than 3 living in the house 1
dog and 2 bitches but bitches again can be as bad as the dogs. they
are very dominent and dont always accept the same sex.
with my situation sadly cancer got the better of my old boy and so i
was forced to make the decsion to have him PTS .this solved the
problem of having to make the choice of giving the younger one up for
adoption but i got no one to blame but myself !! i knew two dogs
wouldnt live together but i thought beacuse of the age gap it would
sort the boys out but it didnt and it wont.
both my boys were 100 % with other dogs outside whilst walking and as
previously stated could be walked together but as soon as we got home
they would have fought to the death something i would never want to
go through again and something i learnt when told something from
experienced people to listen and learn from them !
kind regards
jackie
ps.....paul great to see this site still going from strength to strength
