For all you rescuers, foster parents, and voices for our 4-legged
friends, here's a website you might want to check out and bookmark:
http://lindablairworldheart.com/ (Linda Blair is the actress who
was in the Excorsit movie as a young girl). Although Linda does
rescue work exclusively in her neighborhood, she also campaigns on
national levels. She was recently in Denver, Colorado speaking to
our lawmakers who are trying to pass a ban on Pit Bulls. In speaking
with her, I also learned why you seldom see puppies in local "kill"
shelters - if a pregnant dog comes in, they usually euthanize her
before she gives birth. Otherwise, they have to feed and care for
her until birth, then the additional burden of feeding and caring for
the puppies until everyone is of age to be adopted. She had to ask,
beg, threaten her local "humane" society to let her adopt a pregnant
mom who was not available for adoption. She now has a good
relationship with them and they notify her of incoming moms; plus she
has a network of wonderful foster parents who are willing to take on
the time and expense of moms and puppies. Here's another website
from Australia featuring Dobermans. It seems their government is
trying to ban what they deem "dangerous" dogs as well: Read the
intructions and enjoy. http://www.attackchi.org.au/kits.htm
If you do try this at home I would LOVE to see the photos.
