hi, I'm not sure about 'everything is illuminated' being exactly based on his experiences - he did go back to the Ukraine but it's not really a story of his trip - but the book is really worth reading, it's an amazing read for the use of different voices in different languages.  I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt it.
