Hi Helena and other new list-members (and established ones).... I'm Fiona, one of the people who set up this email list earlier this year.....

 

The group can do whatever it wants to do!.... when I looked into it, there are many yahoo film groups like this around the world, who do all sorts of things:

 

things other film groups do -

...meet up say, every Tuesday evening, and watch whatever film is on that night and discuss it afterwards (thereby seeing lots of films they otherwise wouldn't have thought of seeing)

...have a vote on which film to see each week or fortnight and then go to that one....and discuss it afterwards

...lobby for particular films to be shown

...discuss our favourite/least favourite films on the list.

 

we have only managed to have one discussion after a film so far, and it turned out that two of us would have left that film early if it hadn't been for the discussion we were going to have.  It definitely made a difference to hear from people with conflicting views on the same film!

 

Geoff the Marketing Officer at the Dukes helped to set this group up and is very happy for us to nominate an upcoming film as a 'film club' film - he will arrange a reduced rate for us, give us a 'password' to give at the ticket office, and tell us where to meet each other.   He's away from the Dukes temporarily and Bridget there will look after us in the meantime - so if anyone wants to shout up and nominate two or three good films they'd like to go to over the next few weeks, with dates, then as long as at least a couple of people can make those dates we can call them Yahoo Film Club films and we'll get a reduced rate for them! 

 

The idea eventually is that we get lots and lots of members and we talk about films on the email list as we see them ... I'd really like that to happen actually....lots of films pass me by as I sit at home, I'd love to hear about what people think about what they see, so at least I can look out for films on the telly later!

 

Talking of which, I'm on an email forum which provided some of the extras for Shaun of the Dead, and they all say that that is fab.  Is that coming to a screen near us any time soon?

 

And did anyone see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?  I wish I had....

I really like cinema and cinema history. Specially old movies.
Anything since the 40's basically.
Is there any activities organised by the group? Chats about films? Or
screenings of old movies, etc?
