Hi Ian
I am sorry to read about your situation. The thought of telling your
boss what you are going through is probably not a pleasant one. But,
equally, keeping it all to yourself is not ideal either.
As an employee, your company owes you a legal duty of care. Rather
than being dismissive, it should help you to manage your present
health problems. You don't say how large the company is. If it is a
large concern, their HR people should be concerned to ensure that you
are looked after properly. If it is a small business, and you have
been struggling for some time, they may be quite supportive of you
anyway.
It may make sense to get some legal advice – from a solicitor expert
in employment law ideally, or otherwise from a Citizens Advice
Bureau – before you make your next move.
I wish you well.
Simon
