Cheers

Hi Everyone!

We had an outstanding turnout and a great meeting last night at the Trinity Centre, with almost 20 people showing up to help organise a campaign for the Bristol Cycle Expressway between the Bristol-Bath pathway at Lawrence Hill and Montpelier/ Filton Abbey Wood stations. Special thanks to Cllr. Jon Rogers for attending the meeting and for his continued support for the project.

Following are some notes from the meeting:

1.   We decided (tentatively) on the name "Bristol Greenway Network Campaign" (BGNC) to emphasise that these new routes will be used not only by cyclists, but runners, walkers, in line skaters, wheelchair users, etc.   They will connect the green, open space areas of Bristol, be a "green" transport alternative, and the when the ribbon is cut on the first phase of the Bristol Cycle Expressway, it will be the beginning of a new network for safe, non-motorised travel in Bristol.

2.  The next meeting of the BGNC will be December 17th in the evening (at a pub location to be announced) so mark your diaries!

3.  We agreed that we want to produce a website, a leaflet, an online yahoogroup for discussion, and begin to think about holding an event, possibly in coordination with the Save the Railway Path One Year Anniversary in March, where we would invite key stakeholders, politicians, the media, and most importantly the PEOPLE who live along the route to come and find out more, give their input, and help support the project.  This could be held at the Eastside Roots complex if they were amenable.  We also discussed installing an interpretive display on the BB path where it crosses the cycle expressway corridor, to let people know about the campaign.

4.  People signed up for various responsibilities, a few of which I managed to write down:

*Max and Paul will look into getting hold of a domain and identify people who could help us develop a website
*Paul will set up a yahoogroup, and I will get him the (now almost 50) names to invite to join
*Josh will update his original article on his blog for use in a leaflet and website
*Sue is willing to help copy edit this.
*Jenny can work on locating design and layout work for the leaflet

If you're not listed here, please e-mail me and remind me what you agreed to do,or what you would like to do if     you've had a flash of inspiration!

5. Marc Rath from the Evening Post contacted me this morning to ask how the meeting went, so keep your eyes peeled for a follow up article on our campaign!  (I also mentioned the 3 fatalities in the last year at Junction 2 M32 so watch for that issue as well...)

Also, one announcement I forgot to make last night:

There will be a FREE public forum, organised by the Transport for Greater Bristol Alliance
Jury's Hotel on Prince St. on Dec. 9th starting at 7:30pm:

***Bristol's Public Transport- At a Crossroads***
Christian Wolmar (a national rail commentator) will be speaking, in addition to Cat Hobbs and myself- please spread the word!

More info at:

Thanks everyone and we hope to have a yahoo discussion group up and running soon so y'all can speak with one another not just hear me ramble on!

Onwards,

Josh
