Easton is supposed to be the UKs captial of Street Parties with I think 26 in
one year according to www.streetparty.org.uk
It's all the rage now, at least in the media. Has anyone seen this?
www.thebiglunch.com Tim Smit from the Eden Project is one of the people behind a
scheme to encourage street parties across the nation, and make a TV splash of
it. This is hot on the heels of the Radio 2 Great British Street Party on 25th
May.

Sounds like the moment to leave the party... :-D
Interesting that here in St. George the skatepark's covered in quite
astonishing spray can Art, with the paint paid for with our council tax,
but elswhere, in what's supposed to be the same country, things seem
quite different;-
People should know that a main sponsor of the big lunch is EDF, owner of coal-fired power stations and a major force behind the expansion of nuclear power trhoughout the UK. Another case of greenwash perhaps?
Not a reason to abandon street parties, or the concept of reclaiming public space- perhaps a reason to question affiliation with the big lunch, or at least discuss reasons why someone like EDF would want to sponsor an event like this...

I take it you've got your domestic consumption down to practical photovoltaic
levels then ?
Care to share your mean power useage with this cynic ?

I just don't see EDF as being particularly evil - someone will need to supply
base-load electricity for the forseeable future - especially given resistance to
things like rubbish incinerators and the impracticality of CHP ...
Corporate branding for community events generally is indeed very depressing -
witness Ashton Court / Orange :-(
