Tomorrow is the United Nations Three Day Conference on 'Food Security and Climate Change'.
To coincide with this there are city wide events promoting local food under the banner 'Berries and beans' - see press or flyers for details. In Easton, Eastside Roots are teaming up with Bristol Food Hub, Easton Community Centre, Easton Community Allotment and Transition Easton to bring local food to your doorstep. Please come and join us at one or all of the exciting events!
3rd & 4th June, 7.00am to 9.30am @ Stapelton Road train Station: 'Smoothie Moves'
- enjoy a healthy, local breakfast on the run! We will be making strawberry smoothies using a bicycle powered smoothie maker for commuters and school children using the station. What a great start to the day! Just £1 a pop.
3rd June, 7.00pm @ Easton Community Centre: Food Film Night
- three fascinating films and short talks - all on the hot topic of food. Come at 7pm prompt for strawberries and cream (soya & cow). Or films start at 7.30 - A short film about the community of Easton & food culture by local director, a short film about Global Tomato growing by local director and finally 'The Future of Food' film; we may even have a talk by The Soil Association. Night should finish just after 9.30pm. Bring your own popcorn.
4th June, 6.30pm to 8.30pm @ Stapelton Road Train Station:
We will be serving soup made from local, organic food (for donations), followed by two talks about why sourcing local, organic food is one of the key strategies for combating climate change. Talks are given by Claire Milne from Bristol Food Hub and if we are lucky the director of the Soil Association (tbc)
5th June, 11am to 2pm. Meet at Stapelton Rd Train Station. 'Free Food Walk'
starting at the station for a tea and talk about how to spot and gather free food, then onto the 'Corner Garden' at Easton Community Centre, then up the cycle path to finish at Easton Community Allotment for a free Broad Bean Burger Barbecue with the very special community allotment salad. Walk lead by Kean Lamb with help from our very own Pete. Dont miss this one - sure to be a tasty treat!
5th June, 5pm to 6.30pm @ Stapelton Road Train Station:
Transition Easton & Eastside Roots welcome adults and children to join us for a bean planting session - together with recipes and fact sheet. Take away your potted seeds for donation. Email me your broad bean recipes if you have any good uns!
Appreciate this is late notice - mix up on who was doing the promotion. Please do attend if your are able. We look forward to sharing healthy local food (and food for thought!) with you all this week.
