Beautiful woodland in Bristol is under threat   Message List

Message from Adele (from Save the Path Campaign)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know about the threat to one of Bristol's
little-known, natural treasures. It is called Grove Wood (and has
recently had a sign at the entrance calling it 'Icon Park'). It is
located on the opposite side of the river to the much more well-known
Snuff Mills.

If you have ever been there, you will know that it is a beautiful,
relatively undisturbed, mixed broadleaf woodland on the side of a
valley which slopes down to the river.

I had assumed that it was owned by Bristol City Council as it is
inconceivable that it might not be a protected area. Not so. As you
will see from the email below (which was sent out on the Railway Path
group), this lovely area has been bought by a developer and is now
threatened - there has already been a significant area of trees
cleared from the entrance.

Please take the time to sign the e-petition - if you do not know the
area, contact me as I would be happy to organise a walk there from
Eastville Park. You should see what you've been missing out on!

Best wishes
Adele

Hello all
sorry to hijack the railway path for a non railway path issue, but I
thought many on the list might be interested in this - I have copied
this (mostly) from a mail I received today
thanks
John

It appears that the side of the valley opposite Snuff Mills in Vassals
/ Oldbury Court park (UWEs Glenside campus / Blackberry Hill hospital
back onto this valley) has now been bought by a dubious property
developer with plans to turn an ancient woodland in to a hotel and
deer park. He's also proposing lots of other dubious activities
including paintballing.

Yet this particular woodland is a haven for bats, owls and is used by
otters and kingfishers.

Snuff Mills Action Group has been set up to help protect the area and
we have launched an epetition to campaign for Bristol City Council to
buy the site. It would be really helpful if you could sign this
petition at the link here:

http://epetitions. bristol.gov. uk/signatures

You don't have to live in Bristol to sign the petition, or even the UK.

If you could pass this email on to anyone else you think would be
interested, that would be great too.

You can find out more about Snuff Mills and our campaigns at our blog
here:
