Just a wee reminder about the food meetings on Mon and Wed next week - see below for more info and reply to this email to register, stating which day you would like to attend.
Bristol's Week of Harvest Celebrations - creative planning sessions
Monday 14 July 7 - 9.30pm, Hamilton House, Stokes Croft, St Pauls, BS1 3QY
Wednesday 16 July 3 - 5.30pm, Bordeaux Quay, V Shed, Canons Way BS1 5UH
Join Transition Bristol to plan a Week of Harvest Celebrations to celebrate Bristol's abundance of local food at harvest time and to raise awareness of the need to re-localise our food and the havoc our current globalized food system is wreaking on the health and wellbeing of our communities and the environment.
These sessions are aimed at all Bristol organisations and communities with an interest in food. Sessions will start with an outline on what's happening to transform food in Bristol, leading to open space sessions to brainstorm and plan a range of harvest events across the city. The daytime meeting is aimed at those attending as part of their work and the evening meeting is aimed at those involved in a volunteer/grassroots capacity, although all are welcome to whichever meeting is most convenient.
Bristol's Week of Harvest Celebrations will take place in October to coincide with World Food Day on 16 October and National Apple Day on 21 October. The week of action builds on 'Berries 'n Beans: Bristol's Week of Seasonal Food Celebrations (see below)
Please reply to this email to register - stating which event you will be attending.
Berries 'n Beans: Bristol's Week of Seasonal Food Celebrations, June 3 - 10 2008
Set against the backdrop of soaring world food prices, early June saw world leaders come together in Rome to discuss the pressing issues of world food security and the challenges of climate change and bioenergy. Frustratingly the world summit failed to make any decisions of real significance - other than to further hamper food sovreignty in developing countries by failing to curb subsidies for biofuels.
Meanwhile communities across Bristol came together in solidarity with communities across the world, to celebrate what the seasons currently have to offer us - an abundance of strawberries and broad beans!
Some 15 events took place across the city, with Eastside Roots at Stapleton Road Train Staion in Easton running a particularly fantastic array of events including a wild food walk, film showings and talks and Smoothie Moves - a bicycle powered smoothie breakfast for school children and commuters.
