Pole
Barn Construction in Cornwall
*Pole
Barn Construction
Trevalon
organic farm near Liskeard, Cornwall, will be constructing a barn and
workshop
using sustainable, locally sourced timber on the weekends of 11-12 and
18-19 August
2007.
The farm is owned
by a community land trust that grows and sells organic vegetables through
a box
scheme.
The barn will measure
8m by 12m and is 6m high to the ridge. It will be constructed using the
pole barn
method, and will consist of 12, 7m long round Douglas Fir poles sunk into
holes
in the ground, then after erection the poles will be framed using sawn timber
to form the ridge, wall plates and bracing. When finished the barn will be
roofed
in turf and clad in Cedar featheredge board.
With
the support of Cornwall Sustainable Buildings Trust, Tino Rawnsley, an
experienced
and respected local woodsman, will be leading the pole raising and
framing. Then
throughout August and September there will be informal opportunities for
volunteers
to get involved with framing, stud work, roofing and turfing.
Basic
accommodation is available on the farm.
Contact:
Mark Simon of Orchard Land Trust for more
details.

International
news
IPES
seeking loans
The Permaculture
Institute of El Salvador (IPES) has identified a piece of land for an
education
and demonstration site. They have agreed the purchase, and have assured
funding
to the project. They however have a gap between having to pay for the land
and
the funding being released. IPES is asking for loans of between
£1000 and
£30 000 for up to a year, to see them over this gap. If you are able to
offer a loan or would like more information please contact Karen Inwood
(
permacultura@...)
or Suzi High (

8th
International Permaculture Convergence
IPC8
was a huge success with beneficial connections being made that are already
bringing
positive yields. Reports from participants can be found on our
website and on the IPC8
website. The website will be handed on to IPC9, which will be held in
Southern
Africa in 2008. There is an international support group helping the
organisers
with planning and fund raising for IPC9. Part of the fundraising is to
increase
permaculture design course provision in Africa in the next 2 years. If you
would
like to be involved creating training opportunities in Africa, please contact
Suzi High

International

PAB is playing an important role in this. Our website and online
database are an important contribution to the international movement for
sustainability.
Please keep us informed of changes to projects currently
listed, or of new projects that you find out about.
Remember,
you can support the PAB"s work by joining
the Association.
