Hi Everyone. Just to let you know that I've started a new group for
gay people in the Brighton area. It's called Brighton Gay Humanists
(www.uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Brighton-Gay-Humanists) and will be a
campaigning and discussion group for atheists and others who feel that
religious groups have too much say in modern society. It will also be
a social group organising events and gatherings for like-minded gay
people. If you are interested, please join!
Many thanks,

we are repeating this in 2006. No one should be deterred from coming
to an event because of the cost.

Each October/November, we discuss and agree the evenst we will run in the following year. Brief information should be up on the web site shortly after the meeting, with full descriptions of events either at the end of 2006 or early in the new year.
The next scheduled event is the New Year event at Wasdale, which is listed on the web site.
Chris.

I'm really looking forward to participating in an 'event' in the near future but I found the website a bit confusing (and in slight need of updating ;o)
Could someone please tell me when the next event is - particularly anything in Scotland as I am based in Glasgow.
I think that the website is correct insofar as the next week-long event is over the New Year at Wasdale in the Lake District - hopefully not too far from Glasgow. There should be more details about this soon.
Most events happen over the summer and details for those come out usually in January or February. Info might be available earlier. And there are quite often events at other times of year. Most of the longer events are held in the Lake District or SW Scotland.

i think if your aim is "shagging in the country" then you realy
will be missing the point of an e.c.c. event! shagging in the
country can be arranged through many web sites. while its true that
intimacy can be found and on ocasion alot more, too book an event
with the gaol being a shag in the woods would be wrong in
my "personnal" veiw.
read "Principles and Intentions" on the main e.c.c. page for a more
detailed veiw of what "may" happen.
every e.c.c. event ive been on has been a spiritual experience of
one kind or another.
we all bring an ingredient throw it in the pot and see what cooks
up.
and as for partners? bring, don,t bring its your path your following
isint it?

Hi Russell
Some people go with partners, but probably not the majority.
Some people will know quite a lot of other people on the event, and there
are usually/(always?) some first-timers.
People/we get up to all sorts of things - the "News and Views" section of
the website
http://www.edwardcarpentercommunity.org.uk
gives some more details if you have not read it already.
And there are loads more things that happen than have yet been described
there.
And on any given week I've been on there are probably lots of things that
happen that I don't know about (especially on the weeks wit the larger
numbers of people), and lots that I do.
I feel most of the weeks have some sort of spiritual aspect, in a broad
sense.
There are usually a lot of opportunities to be with people in a variety of
ways.
Myself, I've been back lots of times.

Why are we suddenly getting these annoying e mails, and then an annoying spam that has nothing to do with ECC or anyone associated with it ? I don't mind members writing or promoting things, for the ECC or not, but not some anonymous business promoting some sex thing... Don't we all get enough spam sex things promoting twinks / bears / lesbians / big boobs etc.
Are there no controls by the mediator of this group ?

The main ECC Smartgroups email group is restricted to ECC members only
(i.e. those who have attended an ECC event). The idea of a *public* ECC
discussion group is a good one in principle - so that, for example,
non-members can ask questions about or discuss ECC.
I would expect that discussions between, or directed to, ECC members
woud be on the main ECC email group and this group would be mainly used
as a means of responding to non-members.
Very few people have in fact made use of this group but, looking
through my archive of messages sent here, I can see that several people
have made contact in this way and may well have joined ECC as a result.
That in itself seems enough justification for this group.
As regards the spam problem on this group. I try not to comment on spam,
especially on the affected email group as it then increases the spam
related traffic. I am perhaps 'battle-hardened' to spam as I regularly
have to deal with 50-100 spams per day on my various email accounts at
work and home. If I read all of them I might eventually believe that I
was an obese, impotent, pornography addict (which is what most of them
seem to assume),
Philip
Thankyou for that chris jeffries. Considering I have never ever had a single e mail from this 'public discuss' group, and considering I have also never signed onto it, I think it's fair to say it has not been, and nor is it now, popular with absolutely anyone.
Regardless of what it is called.
Nuisance e mails by the score are still a nuisance and if moderated, needs attention.
Glad to say, it has been sorted and I - like the other 45 people who have obviously not shown any interest in this 'public discussion ' e mail group, will take my name off it. What's the point of this 'public' group anyway ?

Thankyou for sorting out the dreaded spam mailings we were receiving. I wasn't aware that membership of this e mail group was open to everyone who wanted to join without moderator intervention or being a member of the ECC itself. That's what I had always been told and was for our protection against such things. Do we want just anyone reading our intimate and 'in house' e mails sent through this group or is it to be kept private and 'in house' just for the membership of ECC ?
I'm so glad not to be receiving thoe dreaded e mails any more.

I think it was clear from the group description that the multiple advertising being sent was not within what the group was intended for and I have removed the relevant member.
In order to make it easier for people to join the group membership was previously set to Open (anyone can join); I have changed it so that membership now requires approval.

Thanks for that. I don't actually know how I got on this e mail list as this was the first l;oad of e mails I have received from it...
I also didn't know there was a different list although was on it for a while when there were a few e mails about Hamilton Hall and I was astounded and absolutely gobsmacked at the support and praise offered for myself, Hamilton Hall and what I am doing here, by the membership. It brought a tear to my eye...

Hi John...
I think maybe you are not aware of the nature of this group?
It is aptly named "ECC-public-discuss"
With an emphasis on the 'public'
This is the group we invite anyone - the general public - to join to find out about ECC, what it is, how it works.
And that's one of the reasons it was left open for anyone to join.
We also made sure a few ECC members were also subscribed to help with any questions asked and chat to the 'public' who decided to join.
I'm amazed we haven't had loads of spamming in the past for that very reason.
So I'm not too sure if we shouldn't just keep a close eye on spammers & then like, and leave it open to the public.
Our ECC members group has around 300 members John, and no spammers. That is for people who have attended ECC events and so are aware of ECC and how it works. That is where - in your words - our intimate and 'in house' e mails - are sent, not here.
Hope this helps clear it up for you.
Dave.

You're right of course John. Unfortunately so many people are unwilling
for whatever reason to put their ideas or points of view into email
form. I really don't know what will motivate someone into action. If
people are happy ot read others emails and simply lurk, then there isn't
a lot anyone can do about it. Unless the subject of an email is
stimulating or contoversial or raises issues that affect us all then
it's going to be an uphill struggle to get others involved.
I would like to see others have their say. What about some
introductions? We are not a massive group so it shouldn't be too
daunting. You can say as much or as little about yourself as you want.
What do others think? It would be nice to think that other people here
do actually have an opinion and feel safe enough in this environment to
be able to express themselves freely.
Big hugs to all
