The livestock industry is responsible for many of the environmental catastrophes facing the planet & is one of the biggest contributors to climate change! Governments must STOP subsidising this industry which should be drastically scaled down before it`s too late! Those who care about the future of the planet MUST surely be encouraged to adopt eco-friendly plant based diets & there`s no better time to convince masses of people than at The Wave on Sat 5 Dec in London.
Join the march to help bring about the environmental revolution we so desperately need! For further details, see http://www.ecoveggie.org.uk or keep reading.
Veg*n Climate March - Sat 5th Dec 2009
Be part of history in London! Be part of the biggest ever mobilisation of vegetarians and vegans on environmental grounds!! Veg*nism is the solution to many of the catastrophes facing the planet - it`s time to tell the world!!
Join the march to:
Demand that world leaders stop propping up the animal farming industries that cause climate change.
Raise awareness amongst environmentalists and the general public that their choice of diet is critical to the survival of the planet!!
Upto 50,000 environmentalists are expected to join the National Climate March (also known as The Wave) on Sat 5th December 2009 to "demand that our government takes urgent and radical action to deal with the climate crisis". This will be the UK`s biggest ever environmental march aimed at putting maximum pressure on world leaders 2 days before the start of the critical Copenhagen Climate Talks.

The environmental marchers will make several specific demands of the government including:
10% cuts by 2010
A million Green jobs by 2010
Ban domestic flights
55 mph speed limit
End Agrofuel use
This is all great, we agree with all this, but what about livestock farming! It simply does not feature on the organisers agenda! But with your help, The Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism will make sure this crucial issue is not forgotten!!
Veggies & vegans should be there in our 1,000`s, to demand that world leaders recognise that a massive proportion of climate change is caused by livestock farming and the production of meat/dairy products. World leaders must stop supporting the animal farming/food production industries responsible for this devastation and begin to scale them down before it`s too late, or ultimately, we`ll all pay the price!!
"The livestock sector accounts for 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than transport, which emits 13.5%" - Livestock`s Long Shadow - A report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Nov 2006
Some of the environmental marchers will already be veggie/vegan, but the majority will not. The chances are, many of these people will be unaware of the full extent to which animal agriculture is responsible for climate change. This event represents a fantastic opportunity to inform many thousands of environmentally conscious people of the devastating impact that meat/dairy production has on the planet. The world`s media will be there, so there is a very real chance that our message will be heard by millions more people. Please join the march with banners/placards/leaflets etc, and urge the marchers and general public alike, to change their diet for the sake of the planet, people and wildlife!!
Assemble 12 noon at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park
PLEASE NOTE: A rally will take place at Speakers Corners which is a short distance from Grosvenor Square, from where the march is expected to set off at 1.15pm.

What to bring with you!!
Please don`t rely on other people to take leaflets, banners etc for you!
Leaflets - All of the national groups that campaign on veggie/vegan issues produce excellent leaflets that explain the environmental reasons for adopting plant based diets. Please contact Viva , The Vegetarian Society , The Vegan Society , Animal Aid , Peta etc, most of whom will probably supply leaflets free of charge.
Banners/placards - Please use your imagination! Take a look at veggie/vegan websites for relevant quotes and ideas. The bigger, bolder and more colourful your banners, the clearer your message will be.
Costumes/props - Take a look at the photos from last years event on the Campaign against Climate Change website Why not get together with some friends, decide on a theme and construct some props & costumes that will really hammer home your message! Once again, use your imagination! Click here for a guide to making props on the Friends of the Earth website.
Your friends! - Please encourage all your veggie/vegan friends to join you. The amount of impact we have will be determined by how many of us there are, so please do all you can to promote the event. The best thing about this march is that it`s not only a very effective way to raise awareness, it will also be great fun!!! :)

Transport
There is transport available from towns and cities across the UK, coordinated by FoE, Transition Towns, CAFOD, the Co-op & other organisations. Special trains have even been chartered to get as many people there as possible! See the following links for details:
For the sake of animals, people & the planet, please attend and forward widely:
Climate Change Day of Action
including a vibrant carnival parade
Thursday 19 March - Coventry
On Thurs 19th March, a Climate Day of Action will take place in Coventry. Members of Christian Aid, CAFOD, the World Development Movement & the Climate Chaos Coalition will call for a `fair deal for the world`s poor`. The day will begin at 12 noon with a service in Coventry Cathedral, followed at 1.30pm by a vibrant carnival parade through the city streets! At 3pm, a rally will take place at the E.ON headquarters, to protest against their plans to build a new coal-fuelled power station.
Organisers expect upto 1,000 people from across the UK to attend. This is another fantastic opportunity for veggies and vegans to raise awareness of the devastating impact that animal agriculture has on the planet. The easiest, most effective way to help the world`s poor and stop climate change is simply to adopt a plant based diet!! Green Garden Cafe, who catered at the West Midlands Vegan Festival, will be providing 500 vegan lunches for event participants! Let`s tell them that veganism shouldn`t be `for one day only`!!
This event will be an excellent `practice run` for Veggie Pride UK in Birmingham (see www.veggiepride.org.uk ). Why not create a banner or placard with a thought provoking message, or wear a costume of some sort, in order to get your message across! Alternatively, come armed with leaflets for distribution to the masses!
We know that many people will be unable to get out of work, but if you possibly can, please join us.
Hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
MVC
Midlands Vegan Campaigns has been nominated Best Vegan Small Campaign Group in the Vegan Environmental Awards 2009!! If you like MVC and you enjoyed our festival, food fairs etc, please vote for us! It only takes a few seconds, see http://bristol.veganfayre..co.uk/awards-vote/
Hi glad to hear from you. I'm a member of the group. I've started a
podcast aimed at trying to bring a bit of "vision" to those that seem to
be without sight in the leagues of Environmentalism. I believe it is
impossible to call yourself an environmentalist without at the very
least making an effort to transition toward a vegetarian/vegan
lifestyle. Anyway I'd love to get you and everyone else to help in
contributing to what is truly a community effort:
http://h2opodcast.com/vsse.html also never fear about having to create
your own original material for the podcast as there is plenty of
material online and in print that only needs to be read for the podcast.
Here is a longer list of how to get involved: http://H2Opodcast.com/wtp.html
I'd love to have you and other "lend your voice" to the podcast,
thanks,
joseph
ps: maybe Food For Change would be interested in starting a Food For
Change podcast. I'm 100% volunteer and ready and willing to help.

Hi!
I'm very happy to come across this email list and the brilliant
Campaign for Eco Veg*nisn! I'd love to meet more people interested in
the environmental (and social) impacts of the livestock sector. I've
just set up a new website on the subject; www.foodforchange.org.uk. I'm
hoping to share lots of news through the website; there's a subscribe
tab on the right-hand side if any of you are interested in signing up.
I also very much welcome feedback and suggestions.
Wow where have I been??? Today is the first time I've heard of the
EcoVeggie event and past history. Wonderful! ! !
I've started a podcast devoted to the Environmental Reasons why the
world needs to transition to and fully adopt a Vegetarian/Vegan
Diet/Lifestyle.
"Environmentalists" are totally deceived and it is our job to see that
they understand that the easiest and "lowest hanging fruit" they can
possibly pick is through their diet. Not only will it not cost money
to adopt this action but will save them money, save their health, save
the torture of animals, reduce their carbon footprint and play a part
in an attempt to secure a sustainable environment.
I would like to encourage the members of this forum to let me offer my
volunteer and free help at starting an EcoVeggie Podcast and/or
participate in the "Vegan - Vegetarian Solutions for a Sustainable
Environment" podcast: http://h2opodcast.com/vsse.html project.
I would love your help and love to help.

It`s been said that livestock emissions account for the same amount of global greenhouse gases as all the global transport sector in the whole world. This is something simple that everybody can do. If we reduce the amount that we eat, we can have a big difference on the planet.

Hi all,
Well I'll be with you again this year, lets hope we can get it together
in a more organised fashion keeping the theme of being as one, without
losing the thread, we need to make an impact of being united on all
issues, for members to enjoy and be strong on our march against the
things we believe in and hold dear to us, lets show our leaders and
memebers of the public that being vegans/vegetarians/animal lovers and
environmentalist that we care for our World and willing not only to
give up our free time to campaign but to change our lives for the
greater good of man, to protect the creatures that can't speak for
themselves, to help others understand about the food chain system and
how to shop greener, to bring awareness to those who are blinded by
science on the issues of our environment and the damage being done by
political neglect.
Have fun by keeping in control, for this day we will be ambassadors for
our conscious knowing right will prevail
Love to all WORLDTUNER
For far too long, those that campaign on environmental matters have ignored the critical issue of animal agriculture, but that situation is swiftly changing! We predict that in years to come, the 8th December 2007 (the date of the first ever Veg*n Climate March) will be seen as the dawn of a new, more enlightened environmental movement. This new movement will fully embrace plant based diets as the solution to many of the catastrophes facing the planet. For anyone who really cares about the environment, the consumption of animal carcasses will become a distant memory and the natural progression from this will be veganism.
The Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism aims to be the catalyst for this environmental revolution! Last year, we made history by staging the world`s first ever Veg*n Climate March and we`ll continue to make history in London on Saturday 6th December 2008. Be there and be part of history!!

Transport
There will be transport available from towns and cities across the UK, coordinated by local green groups etc. The Campaign Against Climate Change have a comprehensive list of transport contacts on their website. But if you have lots of interested people in your area, why not organise your own veggie/vegan minibus or coach! More veg*ns will be encouraged to attend if they can travel with likeminded people! Let us know your transport details and we will display them here. Email ecoveggie [at] yahoo.co.uk
We have produced a leaflet and poster to help promote the event. Please download, copy and distribute them across the UK. Hand out leaflets to friends, colleagues, your local veggie/vegan/animal rights group etc. Display the posters on noticeboards at your place of work, church, community group, healthfood shop, library etc.

On Saturday 8th December 2007, the Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism set out to coordinate the "biggest ever mobilisation of vegetarians and vegans on environmental grounds" at the National Climate March in London. We called on veggies and vegans to join a Veg*n Climate March, which in effect would be a `veg*n block` within the main march.
Sadly, the veg*n block never actually materialised! Instead, veg*n campaigners mingled with the masses, displaying placards and leafletting. This was primarily because the very few people involved in coordinating the event, didn`t arrive till very late due to travel delays. As a result of this, there were no big/tall banners at the meeting point on Millbank, which would have enabled veg*ns to find each other and gather together. We suspect that some veg*ns who turned up, didn`t take part because there was no veg*n block to join. We apologise for this.
Despite heavy rain, strong winds and near freezing temperatures, those that came armed with banners, placards and their own supply of leaflets, enjoyed a very productive day. Many thousands of leaflets were handed out, to both environmentalists and the general public. National groups represented and promoted at the march included Viva, Animal Aid, Vegan Society and Vegetarian Society. There was also a contingent from the Christian Vegetarian Association and we heard of individuals who travelled from as far as Romania to take part!! Other marchers were heard to comment that they had not seen anything like so many veg*ns at such events in the past.
Since we never actually assembled together, it is impossible to accurately estimate the number of veg*n campaigners that marched. But we spotted at least 50 such people ourselves, amongst the estimated 10,000 taking part. Clearly, we wouldn`t have spotted everyone, so there could well have been upto 100 of us eco-veg*ns. Sadly, we heard from many more people that would have attended if they had not been busy elsewhere. There were more than half a dozen other events on the same day.
The march finished at Grosvenor Square where there was a rally. Speeches were given by a number of high profile campaigners and politicians, including the environmentalist and journalist George Monbiot, Michael Meacher MP and Caroline Lucas, Green Party MEP. Caroline finished her speech by urging the crowd to change their diet for the benefit of the planet. She said that livestock are responsible for more climate gas emissions than the worlds entire transport system, and she said that a vegan driving a 4x4 does less damage to the planet than a meat eater on a bicycle!! You can watch her speech on our MySpace front page. http://www.myspace.com/ecoveggie
Despite the obvious problems, we achieved what we set out to - the biggest ever mobilisation of vegetarians and vegans on environmental grounds! It was an extremely effective day, which may well result in hundreds if not thousands reducing their consumption of animal products or ditching them from their diet entirely!!
Next year, we intend to be far better coordinated. We will have big banners and tall flags at the start of the march to enable all those that wish to march in a block to meet up. We will encourage more groups/individuals to try their hand at banner making, you can be so much more effective with good sized banners! And we`ll encourage other groups to keep the day as free as possible, to enable more veg*ns to attend.
To all those that braved the weather conditions, we thank you. We believe that without doubt, you helped create history! But don`t become complacent, there is much work to be done. The lives of billions of animals and the future of the planet itself, depend on your continued eco-veg*n campaigning!!
What is the Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism??
CEV is currently little more than a banner under which the Veg*n Climate March on Saturday 8th December 2007 was organised. We have been animal rights/environmental/veggie/vegan campaigners for many years and we feel (hopefully as you do) that the general publics concern about climate change(and general increasing interest in green issues) presents a fantastic opportunity to promote eco-friendly plant based diets, for the benefit of animals, people and the planet.
Originally, we had intended that following the march, CEV would disappear as fast as it was formed, but we are now determined that CEV will not just be a one demo wonder! We feel that by concentrating our campaigning efforts on the environmental benefits of vegetarianism and veganism, that a truly compassionate & ethical world really is possible within our lifetime!!
If you, like us, are interested in grassroots
veggie/vegan campaigning from an environmental perspective, why not join us? We hope that, at the very least, local groups/individuals across the UK who wish to campaign from this angle will join our online forum/email list, MySpace and Facebook pages and share information, compare notes and speed up progress towards a veg*n world! We also have a website www.ecoveggie.org.uk, which at the moment is a very bare page but will eventually become a mine of eco-veg*n campaigning info!
With the help of likeminded people, we will work towards our ultimate goal - animal & earth liberation!!
The Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism Because our choice of diet is critical to the survival of the planet
Yes of course you can, if you know HOW to do it!
If you suceed can you explain to me how to do it, as I have SEVERAL
Yahoo Groups that I might do the same.

Hi Chris,
This is Kevin, it was me that spoke to you after the speeches. The
video is excellent! We would like to leave it exactly as it is and
embed it into our website. Is it ok with you if we do that?
Thanks,

The worlds first ever Veg*n Climate March is the catalyst for this change. Be there and be part of history!!
Meeting Point
We`ll meet from 12 noon amongst the main climate marchers on Millbank(Westminster Tube). Don`t forget that 30,000 people are expected, so to be more specific, we`ll meet towards the northern end of the mass of people. That`s the end closest to Parliament Square.
Banners & Placards
We want to make as big an impression as possible on the other marchers, on the general public and with the media. Please make yourself some simple banners or placards, the bigger/bolder/more colourful the better, use your imagination! If you can`t think what your banner should say, use a slogan from the eco/climate leaflets produced by the national veggie/vegan groups or have a look at their websites. If you don`t carry a placard of some kind(and you don`t intend to leaflet either), nobody will know who you are and why you`re marching!!
Leaflets
There will be some eco veggie/vegan leaflets available on the day, but supplies may be limited compared to the number required, so please bring some with you if possible. All the national veggie/vegan groups produce excellent eco/climate leaflets. You will need to get in touch with them immediately so that they arrive in time.
Transport
If you havn`t yet arranged how to get to London, there are still seats left on the coaches that are travelling from towns and cities across the UK. You can find your local transport contact on the Campaign against Climate Change website www.campaigncc.org/local.html
Join our Myspace, Facebook and Email List
Whether you can attend this event or not, if you`re keen to get involved in eco veggie/vegan campaigning in the future, then you can stay in touch with us and join in with discussions in various ways.
No doubt there will be more updates as the big day approaches. To stay bang up to date, please join one of the above groups.
Please forward this email across the UK. Let`s make sure the worlds first ever Veg*n Climate March is massive, for the sake of animals, people and the planet!!
