Re: [Otway] Feelgoods at Earls Court Thursday (snottish)   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #735 of 958 |
At the last minute, I decided to go to the GBBF, and I have to say that I was really disappointed.

Getting there was easy enough, as there is a direct train service to Earls Court (Brompton Road) from Watford.

But once inside, what a shambles!  The bar service was awful, with no proper queueing systems anywhere.  I realise that the event was staffed by CAMRA volunteers, but for people who profess to want to preserve pub standards, I'm sorry, but that's no excuse for lousy service, which, bearing mind that it had cost me £12.00 (excluding my train fare) just to get to the bar, should not be a part of it.

Although there was a good variety of food outlets, there was insufficient seating, so juggling with your food, your drink, and any baggage you happened to have with you (and, in my case, medication), was just a joke.  I fact, I managed to break my glass, and had to buy, yes, buy, a new one.

Then, for the real reason I went.  Dr. Feelgood did an early evening acoustic set, which I quite enjoyed, even if it didn't last long.  But later, they came on for their main set, which was a major disappointment.  Nothing wrong with their playing, but the sound was so awful that you could hardly hear them.  Again, staffing the event with volunteers is one thing, but to entrust the sound desk to amateurs is inexcusable.  After about three songs, I was so pissed off that I decided to go home.

Even that wasn't made easy.  Instead of leaving by the exit nearest the station, I was forced to walk all the way to the other end of the arena, and leave by the main entrance, and then walk all the way back around the building to the station.  At least, on the platform, there was somewhere to sit, and, for once after a gig, I got home before midnight.

Regards,

Ed

Hi all,
Just a quick one for you Feelgoods fans. They will be appearing at the
Great British Beer Festival this Thursday evening. I note that John is
in London on Wednesday evening. I may be able to get the session off to
to see him again. Maybe see someone there?
