Graham, for your info,
Mike
Hi Gerry
I re-measured the volts across R8 and R15 as you requested and also included
V9 for completion. I also measured everything with the fitted V1 ECC189 and
with the original Mullard ECC189 which I had replaced as a routine operation
in the mid 1980?s though I kept all of the originals. There was no fault
I just changed them as a precaution.
All measurements were made on Band 5 using BBC Radio 4 (approx 600Kc/s) as
the test signal. I used a loft aerial, just a simple 40 ft wire as I do not
have an optimised aerial. I have spent most of the recent months working
on my 770r and U MkII using a discone and have not got around to fitting
a good aerial for HF
R8 Fitted Valve Mullard ECC189
Strong Signal 0.170v 0.231v
Weak Signal (Aerial Shorted to Ground) 1.195v
1.33v
Standby 1.3m/v 1.1m/v
AGC off 1.620v 1.73v
RF Gain Down 1.5m/v 1.1m/v
R9
Strong Signal 17.71v 17.93v
Weak Signal (Aerial Shorted to Ground) 19.09v 19.29v
Standby 18.07v 18.05
AGC off 19.84v 20.00v
RF Gain Down 17.95v 18.00v
R15
Strong Signal 2.47v 2.40v
Weak Signal (Aerial Shorted to Ground)
2.77v 2.70v
Standby 0.13v 0.129v
AGC off 2.98v 3.01v
RF Gain Down 0.55v 0.56v
Cathode Volts V1A
Strong Signal 8m/v 18m/v
Weak Signal (Aerial Shorted to Ground)
0.84v .096v
Standby 56v 56v
AGC off 0.114v 0.122v
RF Gain Down 34.1v 34.8v
Cathode Volts V1B
Strong Signal 21v 24.1
Weak Signal (Aerial Shorted to Ground)
17.2v 19.0v
Standby 25v 31.7v
AGC off 16.5v 18.0v
RF Gain Down 24.8v 31.4v
I hope this helps. It is tough making any measurements in the coil box. I
almost lost the 150 ohm resistor in the cathode of V1A when I accidentally
touched HT onto it with the test meter probe. Got a brief puff of smoke but
its OK.
I was worried that maybe I have an unrecognised fault rather than you but
if so I cannot see it. Let me know what you think.
Best,
Mike Cassidy
