Re: [eddystone_radio_users] My first Eddystone

Hello Mike,

Your slippage is almost certainly the pinch-wheel on the tuning-knob drive shaft slipping on the logging-scale disc - probably because some fool has lubricated it!  In which case you'll need to strip it and clean it first . . .

Remove all knobs and switch retainers.  Remove the little plate you mention.  Remove finger-plate being very careful not to bend it (it is held in place by a dab of black pitch).   Slacken flexible coupling to gang so that it will slide off.  Remove 2 BA screws from inside chrome handles, being careful not to mix up washers.  Remove 3 x 6 BA screws from tuning drive bush and remove front of bush.  Flip tuning shaft from pinch-wheel.  Remove four bronze deeply countersunk screws which are the only remaining coupling between the chassi and the front panen.  Carefully draw assembly from flexible coupler, leaving all components on set side and being very careful with drive-wire, which should stay in position.
Now study the works carefully, clean up and replace in reverse order.  the setting of the pinch-wheel will be self-evident.  good luck!

Subject: [eddystone_radio_users] My first Eddystone

I have just taken delivery of my first Eddystone, a 730/4. The name
plate on the front has the following additional information:- ZA51262,
Serial No. 627, Manufacturer STR/QJ. It's in fairly good condition but
has a problem - the tuning drive is slipping. When I turn the tuning
knob sometimes the tuning moves but most times it does not.

I've had a quick look at the set but cannot see how to remove the
front panel to gain access to the drive mechanism. I remember, in my
youth, servicing Marconi signal generators and how difficult they
could be if a manual was not available.

So, can anyone give me a hint on how to remove the front panel please?

Regards

Mike
