Re: [edgarbroughtonband] Re: Hello all and stuff...
Hi Neil, Ramblin' and and other EBBites,
Glasto 2008 - discuss !
Would Neil Diamond with his sing-a-long-a-pop classics have been invited to play Glasto when he was in his hit making 1972 prime ?
I think, definitely not ! And rightly so. So annoyingly sugary, so annoyingly catchy, so.... why now? Are we that desperate for new bands that any old rubbish
is deemed ok for the Glasto audience? If it's nostalgia they're after, why not book EBB ? If Steve was there anyway................!
Then there was Shakin' Stevens - well, don't get me started....!
I only watched TV coverage but sat with my feet in a bowl of mud, drank flat beer and had a piss behind my settee just to get in the mood. Amy was awful, poor girl.
JayclothZee wiped the floor with her (see what I did there?) but I must be getting old because every rap sounded rather similar. The BBC helpfully put up the title of each track as it started, so we'd know he'd moved on to a different one ! I own a Simpsons mug which has a Homer quote - 'Without television, it's hard to tell when one day ends and the other begins' - Well I felt that without the television's helpful subtitles it would have been hard to tell when one Jay Z track ended and the next began.
Neil, the Hop Farm Festival, sounds brilliant. Enjoy and report back, mate. I'm somewhat busy at home these days so had no chance of going, maybe next year. I've not seen much live lately, the last band I saw was a couple of months ago - Wishbone Ash ( Martin Turner version) at a pub in Worthing. Lots of old folk like myself in the audience but a big group of young lads, under drinking age, all bobbing their heads along to 1972 tracks. Maybe we ARE desperate for new bands !!
Cheers,
(shoreham) Steve

Hi Neil - hi all
Live music? - yeah, Steve B and the rest of us Soultax(ians) managed
to get together for 4 rehearsals and play the Summer Soulstice 2
Charity fundraiser soul fest in outer Barnet the other Saturday -
great day (particularly if you like a bit o soul) and over £7000 was
raised for a local cancer support charity. We had a great time and
agreed we'd all (about 18 of us) like to do do some more gigs - well,
more than 1 a year!
Steve went down to the Glastonbury thang with his boy Sonny - he
reports that Verve were fabulous and Amy W was - "Good band looking
for a singer" was approximately how he put it - wot a shame, let's
hope she gets another good album in before she implodes - such big
hair.
The lads are rehearsing this weekend, so I'm looking forward to an
earful or two of that. I'll probably take some piccies, so I'll post
a few here as soon as. There are some EBBthings happening, but I'll
leave that to his nibs to tell!
That poster looks familiar. I was looking at the prices for some of
those 60's Marvel comics on that site - wow! - double wow is I think
I may have a few of them stashed away in a large box of, er? mainly
60's comics?!
Take it easy peeps
