All,

I have just received an email from Steve Broughton asking me to forward the following information:

EBB 1st Uk gig for 2 years:

Monday June 1st
Friars at the Maxwell Hall Aylesbury
40 year anniversary of Friars
with the Pretty Things and The Groundhogs
Onstage 8.30pm

Really exciting news and I personally will hope to be there (if I can get the time off work that is!!)

Get your tickets while you can!

Phil.

You've raised another point here, Neil - seated gigs that leave the bar open when the band are onstage.
In one such venue just outside Brighton, now closed down, audience members wanting to visit the bar had to walk in front on the stage as
this was the only route.
At a Julian Cope gig there a few years back, he had watched several people walk back and forth carrying beers and obviously got pissed off
with it. During one song, he reached down, lifted two pints out of one guys hands as he walked back and poured them over the guys head!
It drew a massive cheer from the majority of the audience and certainly slowed down the trail of piss heads that were obviously more interested
in beer than music.
Now, I like a drink as much as anyone but there's time for a beer before the gig, during the interval and again afterwards.

There's an old cinema in Bexhill, fair play to the promoter, he's trying to bring bands to a place which is the arse end of the world but if you book
the seats at the back, you get a waitress service all through the gig - the bar is alongside and on the same level as the stage. This means the waitress
has to walk across the stage to and from the bar whilst the band is playing! It also means they have to leave the house lights on so the waitress can
see to go up and down the stairs ! I admit it was Andy Powell's Wishbone Ash I went to see there (slightly dated) and although they did comment
on this bizarre arrangement, on one occasion, getting in step behind the waitress as she carried another tray of drinks, they did take it in good part.

Cheers,
Steve

I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. I remember from one of the 100 club gigs a woman ( she sounded Polish) who spoke throughout REFUGEE, I couldnt believe it. After the performance had finished Rob said something similar to this woman as well. These people get right up my goat! Why spend the money going to gigs, etc when youre gonna speak throughout songs.

I saw Roger Waters in May 08 at the 02 arena, and this was even worse, as it was all seated, so you can't move away. We had a group of pissed up scousers (no offence to people from Liverpool by the way, but these blokes did your city no good) sitting behind us, and 4 pissed blokes sitting in front, it was a bloody nightmare, up and down throughout the concert, more beers, more food, visits to the toilet, and chatting throughout the songs they didn't like or didn't know.

This sort of thing seems to happen all the time these days, and dont get me started on cinema's!!

Good news from a previous poster about a gig in Aylesbury in July. Any further info/confirmation would be appreciated.

Cheers

Neil

I agree, Stewart. Pisses me off too. It's not too bad at a standing gig, you can walk away and stand elsewhere, but I've had people chatting behind and in front of me at seated gigs
and there's no escape. I've experienced this at live stand up too - then when the rest of the audience laughs at a punchline, the 'talkers' are asking everyone around them what the joke was, hence missing the next joke etc....
Drives me nuts!

hi ebb fans. i would like to get something off my chest that has been troubling me for some time. why is it that people who claim to be big fans of ebb and other bands.go to the gig and talk or answer mobiles all the way through the performance? me personally have gone to listen to the band not some drunk idiot babbling on about nothing important or the fact that they saw them in the sixties out thier head on whatever. my answer is well good for you but I WANT TO LISTEN TO WHAT THE ARE SAYING/PLAYING NOW!!!!! so why did you pay your ten quid then? above all its downright disrespectfull to the band and other people that have come to listen. ONE other thing i along with others think that superchip is the best album they have made. its like the book of REVALATIONS. edgar/rob you are up there with nostradarmus mate. i listen to that album at least twice a week and its brilliant. ok RANT over with thanks for listening see you at the next gig.

Hi all a belated happy new year,

Sorry for the lack of messages on here for a few months, I feel
somewhat responsible! Anyway hope youre all keeping well.

Well if we believe the media and the govt we are in the middle of a
recession, which is nice. I do wonder sometimes how do 'recessions
start? Im no financial expert and dont want to be, but i get the
impression that if a load of people start predicting its gonna happen
then everyone believes them and it does! Or is it due to some greedy
men in business? Bit of both probably.

On to cheerier topics and that is the hope for some new EBB material
this year and hopefully a new UK tour. Rob has updated his blog today
which is good to see, he says there should be some dates at the end
of the year. Good to see there are quite a few hits on the EBB on
youtube these days and comments from other fans.

Thanks to the person, sorry I forgot who posted it, the link to the
live concerts website, great stuff. Been listening to Floyd at the
Fillmore 1970.

Carrying on the CD/DVD topics;

CD's

Kate Bush - Aerial and Hounds of Love
Best of Buffalo Springfield
The Aliens - Luna and Astronomy for Dogs - good psychedelic rock
albums by ex Beta band members.

Ben, would be interested in the Chinese Dub stuff from Jah, tell us
whats its like?

DVD's

Joy Division documentary
Operation Good Guys
Fifteen Storeys High - little known BBC3 comedy that lasted for 2
series starring comedian Sean Lock.
Saxondale - Series 2
peep Show - series 5

Would quite like to get hold of the 60s B&W Twilight Zones as well.

Tickets - The Specials reunion tour - Brixton Academy in May,
unfortunately not including Jerry Dammers but all the other
originals.

Anyone, was looking to get a couple Pete Brown/Piblokto albums, as
ive heard good things? Any good?

Cheers

Neil

Happy new year all, and its good to see Rob back blogging...
I have attached an ongoing competition from a norw paper called VG,
and hopefully you all can click in, take a look and give your votes.
EBB is ahead with the meat album, side by side, live hits harder,
bandages and wasa wasa.
Then follows Purple, Rainbow, Queen, Whitesnake, Zeppelin and Metallica...
So fellow admirors of the band, please give your points, so they'll
stay on top a long time.
After what I can read from the comments, the readers are surprised and
can't understand why an - for many of them - unknown band leads...

http://lister.vg.no/?do=show&id=18315

It's NICE readin' :)

Happy new year to you all .

Not posted for a long time so thought I should make an effort.
First a bit of politics from me also, Hurrah Tony Ben and everyone else
who has raised their voice over this issue.
I also want to point you guys to this http://www.nkusa.org/aboutus/index.cfm
just in case the brush splashes the tar over everyone.

Christmas CD's included Ali Farka Toure's Savane
and the The Orchestre National de Barbes's  Alik.
Also listening to my old Stackridge vinyl's what a joy to rediscover this band again.

Looking forward to whatever the EBB has to offer in 2009

All the best

Hi all, happy new year (let's hope)

little bit of politics...
Anyone hear Tony Benn on the BBC Today programme the other day? He was great, he
basically ignored the questions and just kept repeating the contact details for
the Gaza appeal that the BBC are refusing to air.

my birthday is Jan 21st so I get loads of cd's and dvd's this time of year..
Here's this years bumper crop.

CD's
Sonny Boy Williamson - The Essential Recordings

Better material than 12x5, still prefer the original mono sound tho 8/10

Ramones - 1st 4 studio albums, remastered with bonus tracks
Brilliant of course...Remastering is done well, improved sound. The Leave Home

crowd is enthusiastic at the start and delerious by the end...the sound of
history being made.
All 4 10/10

Abdel Ali Slimani - Mraya
Basically a Jah Wobble album feauturing vocalist and percussionist Abdel.
Not the best Wob but some good grooves. 6/10

Where Africa Meets the Orient - Noor Shimaal
like an acoustic minimalist 3 Mustaphas 3...not surprising as it's a side
project of Mustaphas percussionist Salah Dawson Miller 8/10

Deep dub grooves overlaid with largely incomprehensible toasting...has it's

The rest 7/10

Return to the Batcave
Adam West and Burt Ward ham it up reminiscing and re enacting the making of the
60's show 7/10

The Outer Limits
Complete Series 1 and 2 from the 60's. 49 b&w episodes on 13 discs, some naff

Hi all,
As Steve said nice to see the group back up and running in the
New Year with an interesting conversation. I personally can't wait to
see what the year has to offer EBB wise, hopefully the new CD will
finally make its way out, with maybe a tour to follow? As for
Christmas cd's, I got the new David Gilmour Live Vinyl Boxset and
it's brilliant! In Manchester there is a shop called Vinyl Exchange
which sells CD's and vinyl at very good prices, I recommend if your
in the area check it out. I picked up Kevin Ayers 'Unfairground' an
album which I have been meaning to buy for a long time. It's nice to
see Kevin is still writing music, saw him live a couple of years ago,
and yes he still has that voice! On a final note I have been
listening to music on this website for a few weeks now. Bill Graham
who used to own the Filmore East and West recorded many of the
concerts he put on. That along with the King Biscuit Power Hour
recordings offers over 2000 concerts all free to listen to.

Hope you enjoy!

Hi All,
Interesting info re Victor, what a shame he's not playing in a band - a great talent.
Good to see some messages flowing in the group - it's been a quiet time and Rob's suspended his blog so not much going on there, either.
So, in the interests of stirring up some communication, what CD's did you get for Christmas ? Always interested to know what we're all listening to other than EBB.
I was buying a Paul Weller CD as a present for my other half, Angela on www.play.com and after I'd done that, started to search the site for other sounds.
I ended up ordering Humble Pie, Rockin' the Filmore (cost me £4.15p including postage) and the EBB 'Meat' album to replace my long lost vinyl.
Angela bought me Seasick Steve, so I loaded up my ipod, drank a bottle of wine and survived Christmas Day unscathed !

Cheers,
Steve

I met up with Art today at a family funeral and we got to talking, as you do. I asked him about Vic and he tells me he is still in touch from time to time. Apparantly Vic is now in the south of France, has dabbled a bit in property development down there. He still plays a bit though not in any band or anything, but he does have an almost priceless giutar collection it would seem.

Oh, and Art said yes, Vic's family are still very much in and around Warwick.

Best,

Phil.

I'm not sure but I could ask Art next time I speak to him. I'm pretty sure there is still a family connection in Warwick. My mum (Art's big sis) is in an OAP club in Leamington Spa and I'm sure someone related to Vic is too. I'll try and find out.

Happy New Year to all too!

The organ was played by Vic Unitt. I just found out by checking my own lyrics site. I have the full album credits for most of the albums including all the Harvest EMI ones, so if you haven't seen it before take a look. You can access it through the official EBBsite and then go to the lyrics bit in 'Links'.

Well, folks, the time is here and another issue of Music Street
Journal is live and ready for your vieiwing pleasure and it includes a
review of the Rockpalast CD.

Well, that's all for this time. Don't forget, though, you can check
out a ton of great stuff in our members area. For an idea of the types
of things you'll find there watch the video at the main page at
musicstreetjournal.com. Remember, though, that tells you the types of
items you'll find, but the video is outdated and is nowhere near to
listing all the artists who can be found there. To log in to the
members area use the box on the main page. You can buy your membership
by hitting the "click to register" link next to the log in box.
Memberships start at $6 for one month and you can get a full year for
$25. Not only do you get access all the archives and exclusive
materials, but you are helping Music Street Journal survive by buying
a membership. We can't continue forever without the support of the
artists we help promote and the people who read the site. If you are
reading this, that probably means you.

Thanks, Gary

Bad news first; we were cut down to one short hour from the two hours
expected. EBB was scheduled between local heroes Young Neils (Neil
Young tribute band) and for unexplainable reasons headliners Blood,
Sweat & Tears. About 1.700 people fronted by a hard-core fan base of
10-12 persons aged from 15 to 65 years. EOR, Love in the Rain, Six
White Horses, Catch My Breath, Hotel Room, Last Electioneer, ODO + a
few more. Looks like the lads had a good time until they were told to
round it off way too early. ODO was a killer finale at least. In the
local newspapers next day EBB was in pole position. Big picture of
Rob, a tiny one of B,S&T. Revenge. Young female journalist was amazed
by the atmosphere during the EBB set.

Jarle & lovely Kirsten came all the way from Stavanger. Jarle holds a
black-belt master degree in EBB-history and sometimes drives me mad
with quiz & questions. Succeeded to smuggle my under-age daughter in,
she went directly in front of stage and had the time of her young
life. It has been a great year for Norwegian fans with four gigs,
thanks to the band for memorable moments. Have uploaded some pictures.

Hi All,

Recently, I sat down at the PC and made my own EBB cd for the car,
deciding I wanted a purely heavy cum hard album to listen to. My
choices are below, just wondered what yours would be if you did the
same? (I have named it 'Getting Hard' incidentally....)

1. Getting Hard/What Is A Woman For;
2. Smokestack Lightening (live 69)
3. Momma's Reward
4. Evil
5. House Of Turnabout
6. Love In The Rain
7. One To Seven
8. It's not You
9. Call Me A Liar
10. Up yours (not really heavy but I love it)
11. Apache Dropout
12. Out Demons Out (full 9 min version)

I'm thinking now that I might do the same again, with a folk/mellow
leaning.

Hi all.
Here comes a short "review" from a FANTASTIC gig in Oslo !!
First of all, and I quote :
Evening
Liar
Side by side
Vibrations
Anthem
Six whites
Nighthogs
Refugee
Breath
Bloom
Revelations
Momma's
Soldiers
Hotel room
Love in the rain
Electioneer
Demons/Poppy

This was the full set list, and what a set it turned out to be.
I wish you all could have participated, it was full speed from the
first guitar riff, a full(300 ?) and almost claustrofobic hall(40
degrees I guess), singalong, stomping, smiling audience having a GREAT
time, a band on stage that was full of energy and happiness, and in an
atmosphere like the one in Bergen, all of the audience with great
expectations and a kind of "finally, here they are", eyes and minds
that turned 30 years back in time, smiling, remembering, nodding and
clapping...it was just great.
On stage Rob, lively, sometimes dancing, smiling, communicating and
the way he used his voice....well one could never believe he was
entering the plane for a new gig next day the following morning. He
was singing out loud from the beginning and again WHAT a voice the man
has, and as mentioned the temperature, well sometimes even his guitar
seemed to sweat, but he kept on rockin', had some water and then
rollin on, endlesly endlesly...
Luke look like as he has been with the band since 68/69,rocking,
smiling and in total control, he also seemed to love being on stage,
so obviously the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
Steve in the back on his drums....my oh my, what an energy that man
has....soaking wet in the heat, but still fully energetic, smiling and
grinning....he just have to be one of the best drummers ever....
Art, well what can we say...??? He's steadier than Rocky Mountains on
his bass, smilingly, laughingly, always - as Luke - in total control
and show for the whole world he loves being on stage....beautiful !
Andy on different assortments of guitars, laughing, joking, smiling,
jumping around, and a true DEMON on his guitar.... please do never
leave the band !!
And me ?? A completely satisfied, happy and empty norwegian, at the
same time a bit sad knowing by myself that this band never got the
attention it should have had, but its never to late to hope that the
music loving people around the world soon will wake up, listen and
discover....

Hi Guys,

I don't post often but this has got me fired up enough

"While a US court ruled Google must hand over details of every person

LinkedIn has been criticised for exploiting its users and selling

This is total crap and a gross attack on your privacy re set your
