For anyone who trained with Morgan Whittacker either through Habitus
or directly, if you haven't had your portfolio returned, no doubt you
will have recieved an e-mail from Morgan Whittacker asking you to pay
£15 for the return of your portfolio.

Considering the total and absolute car crash that Morgan Whittacker
have been (losing their accreditor status with City & Guilds) I
replied to thier request in the following vein:

Dear Ravi

I have already replied to your attempt to extort further money out of
me, but it seems that you haven't got the message.

When I signed up for training to be a DEA, I did so under the
illusion that I paid one fee for everything, no mention was made of
having to pay additional sums for the return of portfolios and seeing
as I paid over £2500 for this course, I kind of "assumed" that out of
that large sum of money, there would be some put aside for returning
peoples' portfolios to them.

It is the normal expectation of a CUSTOMER of the course provider,
that when they have submitted work for assessment, that their work is
returned to them when the assessment is completed.

It was also a reasonable expectation, after paying £2500, that the
coursework was be written in a way that was understandable and that
made sense.

The only thing worse than the quality of the online coursework,
obviously transcribed by someone who knew you well and as a result
employed the tactic of the typists revenge, the only thing worse than
that was the supposed online tutor.

I found upon attending the workshop, that I was not alone in my
inability to engage the "tutor" in meaningful dialogue, there was no
one in the room I was in who had ever had a question, comment or
query successfully answered to their satisfaction.

The ONLY thing I found to be done competently and professionally was
the week of classroom courses held in Acton, I now believe that the
reason for this was that you had no choice but to hire in proper
professionals to do a proper job, if this part of the course had been
the same standard as everything else Ravi, then you would have been
lynched in the Holiday Inn by a bunch of very unhappy trainee DEAs.

After the classroom sessions, we then had to submit our portfolios
for assessment, we were told it should take no more than a month, I
sent mine in on 22nd June 2007 and didn't hear back from you, or
anyone else from your sorry organisation until September asking me
for further work on alternate walls, work that was submitted within
48 hours of the request.

The next thing I heard was that you had lost your City & Guilds
course assessor status meaning that you could no longer pass our work
anyway.

After this, I was told in a letter sent from your office, that you
were "holding my portfolio in safe keeping" until you had resolved a
dispute you were having with Habitus.

Ravi, I have to say that I find it absolutely incredible, that you
have the barefaced gall to lecture people on professionalism and
integrity when your actions have exposed for all to see, the fact
that you have neither.

The thing is Ravi, it could have all been so different.

WHAT YOU COULD HAVE DONE !

1) PROOF READ THE COURSEWORK YOU WERE PUTTING ONLINE, MAKING SURE IT
IS GRAMMATICALLY AND FACTUALLY CORRECT, AND THAT IT IS NOT REPEATED
IN THE CONSECUTIVE EXERCISE.

2) PROVIDE A PROPER ONLINE TUTOR WHOSE JOB IT WAS TO ENSURE THAT ALL
CUSTOMER/STUDENT QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED WITHIN 24 HOURS.

3) ENSURED YOU HAD SUFFICIENT MANPOWER TO PROCESS THE PORTFOLIOS YOU
HAD COMING IN FROM YOUR CUSTOMER/STUDENTS AND SET A kpi OF 2 WEEKS
FOR THIER TURNAROUND.

4) RETURNED CORRESPONDENCE WITHIN 24 HOURS AND DEALT WITH COMPLAINTS
IN A TIMELY FASHION.

5) COMMUNICATED WITH ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS IN THIS TRANSACTION, FROM
THE CUSTOMER/STUDENTS TO HABITUS TO CITY & GUILDS

6) RETURNED CUSTOMER/STUDENTS PORTFOLIOS WITHOUT ATTEMPTING TO EXTORT
FURTHER MONIES FROM THEM FOR A SERVICE FOR WHICH THEY HAVE ALREADY
PAID.

Ravi, this course has been a total and unmitigated disaster, if it
were an earthquake, it would be 10 on the richter scale, this is like
the Hindenburg was to the Airship industry, the sheer scale of your
incompetance beggars belief, yet here you are, STILL asking for more
money so that I can have, what is now a useless folder of papers
returned to me.

Well Ravi, you can stick my portfolio where the sun don't shine, I do
not want it back you can stick it sideways and without lubrication,
right up your arse.

Anyway, having recently qualified as a DEA, and still a whole
portfolio away from qualifying as a Home Inspector, I thought it
would be good to see how everyone else is doing?

As I'm hoping to be in the market for getting some work at some
stage in the near future, I would welcome any advice on what is the
going rate for a DEA (and/or Home Inspector). From my limited
research, it seems that HIP providers are just using random fee
structures???

It seems to me that if us 'little people' have some common-ish fee
structure we may be able to help set the long-term level, rather
than it being controlled by HIP providers - power to the people!!

Anyway, would love to hear from you guys, so keep me posted on your
progress (and please give me feedback re. fees).

- has Elmhurst given its written approval to us, as its trained and
accredited DEAs, to use said logo and reproduce it on our

The reason I ask is that this approval needs to be in place in order for

something else?
And when you say 'secure information' do you mean ' 'get hold of
information'  (which is what 'secure', when used as a verb, means) or do
you mean 'keep information secure' (which is what I guess you may really
mean)?
