Eraser gig at Chester-Le-Street (written by Sarah Miles).

How do you write a review that does justice to the performance I have just had
the pleasure of seeing?

I have just returned from the Chicago Rock Café in Chester-le-Street after
watching ERASER. This is the second time I have seen them, and just like the
real thing, I could never get bored of their shows either. The venue was a
perfect setting and was unusually full for a weekday. The atmosphere was
relaxed and pleasurable as everyone there was thoroughly enjoying the show.
Stewart Jeens (Andy Bell's Doppelganger, he really looks like him!) filled the
dance floor with popular classics such as 'A little Respect' and 'Blue
Savannah'. I really believe that you could just shut your eyes and believe you
were at a real Erasure concert. Not that you'd want to of course, when Stewart
wore the ever popular costume of white briefs and a vest it seemed that the bar
wasn't the only thing dishing out the Multiple Screaming Orgasms! The drink had
to take a back seat as the women begged to see more of the fabulously toned body
on display. Not a sight many sane women would kick out of bed! And Vince (Andy
Coley) at over 6 foot manages to pull off the sultry look of the original Vince
Clarke despite being twice his height to every last detail apart from the
trademark ciggy!

The most memorable songs of the night for me were Blue Savannah, Drama, Star and
Stop. The set list was incredibly well thought out and fit together perfectly
which most other tribute bands fail to achieve. Tonight was the first time I
heard the new song they have recently added to their set list 'Breathe' One of
Erasures more recent top 10 singles from the new album 'Nightbird'. I know it
certainly impressed the two die hard Erasure fans that I was out with. And I was
blown away. Just going to show the talent that they both have, to be able to
cover a song that was just recently in the charts this year and still be pitch
perfect is a talent in itself. I've always believed that the music of the
original Erasure is one of the few artists that are difficult to impersonate.
Unless it's Eraser under the spotlight! It just leaves one remaining question.
Why haven't these been on Stars in their Eyes? In my opinion they have outdone
the other two contestants twenty times over.

The best part of the night was seeing younger people enjoy the music; some of
the people who really got into the show and filled the dance floor hadn't even
hit their 20's. Even though they missed the 80's and Erasure at their prime,
you could see they were having a great time living in the 80's for a few hours.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Andy and Stewart for a drink before they went
on stage and found them both to be very approachable and wonderful people.
Although I had spoken to Stewart previously to this (was absolutely legless at
the time) I don't think I managed to hold a sensible or particularly intelligent
conversation with him due to the copious amounts of vodka I had consumed the
first time I saw them. Nevertheless I was made to feel welcome and relaxed and
was able to chat with them for about an hour.

Take pity on poor Andy Coley who after the performance which finished at
midnight had a three and a half hour drive home had to be up and at work for
sparrows fart!

Thanks for the show Eraser. It made my day!
