Facebook & MySpace causes for Proportional Representation-based Soci   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #30 of 93 |
I've just created "causes" at Facebook and MySpace entitled "Proportional Representation-based Socialism". Causes can be used to raise money as well as awareness, but I'm not using that facility. You can, however, join the cause, invite others to join it too and/or display it on your profile.

If you are registered at Facebook, you can find the cause at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/causes/show/92363?m=8905f&recruiter_id=14875654

You can also find the cause at MySpace at http://www.causes.com/myspace/causes/92373?recruiter_id=14875654.

On each social networking site I've provided the following details:

Mission

To implement socialist societies around the world with governments elected using the single transferable vote (STV) form of proportional representation (PR)

Positions
  1. The capitalist economic system that currently dominates the world is primarily run in the interests of big business.
  2. Soaring food and fuel prices could cause millions of people to starve or freeze to death.
  3. Ordinary working and middle class people must overthrow our capitalist bosses and politicians, to create democratic socialist societies.
  4. Everyone should have an equal say when electing our rulers, although there may be some degree of workers' control of industry.
  5. STV is the fairest electoral system since it avoids the need for tactical voting and lets voters choose between candidates from the same party.

Description

Using the STV electoral system, voters can allocate preferences to various candidates in their constituency.

If a voter's first preference is eliminated, his or her vote is transferred to that person's second choice, and so on for remaining preferences.

If a voter's first preference gets more votes than required to be elected, a proportion of his or her vote is transferred to that person's second choice, and so on.

Votes should be counted by hand rather than by computers, so that scrutineers can check that electoral fraud is not taking place.

The creator of this "cause", Steve Wallis, is the initiator of the Foundation for PR-based Socialism ( http://www.PRsocialism.org ).
