European fundraisers 'expect finances to grow'
By Hannah Jordan , Third Sector Online, 16 October 2008
Fundraisers across Europe are expecting their finances to grow
despite the economic downturn, according to a study unveiled at the
International Fundraising Congress in Holland yesterday.
The State of the Not-For-Profit Industry Survey from third sector
technology consultancy Blackbaud asked 466 organisations in the UK,
Germany and Holland questions on issues including fundraising, use of
the internet, general operations and accountability and stewardship.
It revealed that Dutch organisations were most optimistic, with 78
per cent of respondents expecting income to grow this financial year,
compared with 63 per cent of UK respondents and 52 per cent of those
from Germany.
Fundraisers were also positive about 2009, with financial growth
expected by 86 per cent of Dutch charities, 71 per cent in the UK and
62 per cent of German organisations that responded. However, it
showed that none expected to increase staffing levels.
About half of all organisations surveyed forecast an increase in
online donations. Web communication was considered vital by almost 70
per cent of UK respondents, but only 34 per cent were happy with
their own site. The full report will be available on 1 November.
