Here are some of the local names for various parts of the coast that
I can think of off hand, these are the ones not listed on the OS
maps or any of the climbing/walking sites.
From East to West.
1 Ninnywell bay, Grid Ref: 735496. Small bay, has an escape route
via the gully above, which is actually a fault between 2 types of
rock. You may have seen a car on the beach here before, someone
drove it off the cliff (suicide).
2 Bass rock and Caves OS 729496. 3 caves in total, the middle one
has a blow-hole, Bass rock is the large stand alone rock just to the
west of the caves.
3 First and second Blacklands, First Blacklands OS 726496, Second
Blacklands OS 728496, a load of large rocks (Point Perilous)
seperates the coarse sandy beaches (high tide)
4: The salmon traps OS 724500, old wooden salmon trap, slowly being
destryoed by the sea, seen at low tide on the eastern beach.

beach at Lynmouth
6: Hewitts rock OS 712501, fishing venue, large slab of gently
sloping rock, has a path (unsafe path) up to North walk. Also beware
of the blow hole it can scare you if your not expecting it.
7: Iron Railings OS 705500, known to climbers as the East/West
inlets/dog hole. Known to Locals as 'Iron Railings'
8: Yellowstone: OS 704498 the big yellow rock below and to the east
of castle rock, there is access up and down, no fixed rope but there
is a peg in the grass slope above.
9: Jenifers leap OS694496 a sheer cliff, old lookout, where a girl
named Jenifer commited suicide a fair while ago.
10:Second Lee bay OS 691493, a second beach west of Lee bay thats
uncovered at low tide.
Thats all I can really think of off the top of my head now, If I
think of any more I will reply to this message. So if you hear any
of these mentioned then you might now know where to find them!
