Cambridge Film Festival 2004
If only for its cinematography, this is a pretty amazing film.
Christopher Doyle has done a fantastic job. But there is so much
more. The IMDB site describes the film as a comedy/thriller. Well,
that's a starting point, I suppose. It has a bizarre mixture of
bizarre/low/grim humour; slow meditative pacing; fantasy sequences;
and narrative ambiguities. Plot wise, it's a kind of `Wilbur (Wants
To Kill Himself)', except this works a hell of a lot better.
Having said that, I'm not entirely sure the whole thing hangs together
– I'll need to watch it again to properly decide. However, it's
fresh, distinctive and stimulating cinematic style, mean that it is a
must see film.
