i love this movie. i think it's kaufman's best script yet. and i agree, michel
gondry did a wonderful job. a very wonderful job indeed.
and for the first time i fell in love with jim carrey. he was absolutely
adorable, in that geeky way, in this film. and kudos to the other cast as well.

With the odd exception, I find that any film which proudly boasts
Jim Carrey as one of its stars is something best avoided.
However, with a script by Charlie Kaufman, direction by Michel
Gondry, the delectable Kate Winslet co-starring, and some rave
reviews under its belt, I had to give this one a try.
As well I did, because this is not just good, it's very good.
Carrey, for once, tones down all the aggravating facial contortions
and annoyingly overblown gestures, and simply plays someone shy and
awkward – and does a pretty convincing job. It's left to
Winslet to
supply the extrovert characterisation.
However, what I really liked about the film was the inventiveness
and cleverness of the script. Perhaps that makes it sound
pretentious and schematic, but I found it to be one of those stories
that is accessible, fun, but which at the same time becomes richer
the
more you delve underneath its elaborate narrative. At the core lies
a skilfully crafted depiction of the fragile and slippery nature of
memory.
A real treat.
