i so agree with you on every point you made. it's a wonderful movie. i loved the
way it felt. and the texture and the characters were very "well-made". +)

It may be related to `In The Mood For Love' and other earlier Wong
Kar-Wai films, but `2046' has a tone and rigorousness of approach all
of its own. The visual style is enchanting, but it's an altogether
cooler, less immediate affair than the warm sumptuousness of `In The
Mood For The Love': in a minor key perhaps, but nevertheless a hugely
rewarding film.
Wong Kar-Wai shows again how his cinematic language is one that
brilliantly synthesises all the filmic elements: sound, vision,
editing, performance. It's charting of Chow Mo Wan's (Tony Leung)
series of relationships – all overshadowed by a
remembered/re-imagined earlier relationship - is dense, intelligent,
heartfelt, and all encompassing. Some have called it pretentious, but
to my poor old senses it's the real thing.
It's cinema as art form.
