I have loved Wes Anderson's previous films, but after seeing the damn
trailer a hundred times I had an awful sense of foreboding about this
one.
The opening scenes were very promising, with that characteristic
Anderson humour: underplayed and slow paced. However, it was not
long before a combination of Bill Murray playing Bill Murray self-
consciously playing Steve Zissou, and a script hell-bent on being
quietly quirky (like an embarrassing stage whisper), became tiresome.
The trailer had strangled the humour out of most of the funny lines,
although there were some flashes of inspiration, albeit invariably
visual in nature, rather than script based.
I must say that I loved the Bowie covers, though.
And the animation.
