Not only is this a vividly menacing thriller genre piece, but it is
also a powerful and mature study of the corrupting power of revenge.
Paddy Considine's chilling and compelling central performance ensures
that this film is a gruelling, unsettling experience, with its
occasional moments of black humour only serving to nervously ratchet
up the tension further.
The carefully constructed narrative structure excludes a simplistic,
or dismissive, reading of the film's themes.
I can only agree with many commentators, that this is Meadows' most
mature, as well as technically assured, work to date.
