Re: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou [Wes Anderson, 2004]

Hi Mike

This is actually the first film I have caught at the cinema in four
months, so rather than right a review (namely yours ha ha) I will
just follow on here.

Maybe I was just in a good mood but I really enjoyed this. I wasn't
expecting much having never been a big fan of 'Bill Murray', and an
anti-fan of 'Owen Wilson', yet the quirky nature of the whole thing
certainly did it for me.

I especially loved the idea of the two dimwit Albino Dolphins
(probably worth a film on their own), and 'Cate Blanchett' seemed to
be a lot softer and attractive than I had previously seen her.

If you are a regular reader of National Geographic you will realise
there are actually plenty of Steve Zissou characters out there,
although not all aquatic versions. For me the whole thing was a
gentle send up of such people.

All round good fun and a real pleasure when a film massively exceeds
expectations.

I have loved Wes Anderson's previous films, but after seeing the damn trailer a hundred times I had an awful sense of foreboding about this one. The opening...

Hi Mike I have to confess that the first time I saw Royal Tenebaums, I was less than enthralled (partly due to the peculiar atmosphere in the cinema). When I...
