London Film Festival 2005
The matter-of-fact manner of a young father's thoughtless betrayal - a
pivotal act in this film - is bewildering as well as shocking. This is
an incredible story told with a devastating realism, where nothing is
simple or inevitable.
Geoff Andrew - who introduced the film - hit the nail on the head when
he said that the action sequences are more gripping and terrifying than
anything in a standard Hollywood film - more immediate and believable.
As is the whole film.
The Dardenne brothers are truly gifted filmmakers, and it was a real
pleasure to see them attending this screening, and to hear them in the
short Q&A afterwards.
