`Beau Travail' sparked an interest; `Trouble Every Day'
disappointed; `Vendredi Soir' made me really sit up; now `The
Intruder' confirms to me that this director has something quite
special to offer.
The impressionistic style of `Vendredi Soir' is taken much further
in `The Intruder', so much so that the plot is enticingly slippery and
evasive, the focus of the film being much more on the internal than
the external. It is a strategy that could so easily fail, but here it
works superbly, providing a film that is addictively absorbing.
