Subject: RE: [forensic_occupational_therapy] Clinical pathwaysKathryn,Thanks for your message. We have used care pathways at the State Hospital for some time and in general found them very helpful. I have uploaded our current care pathway for continuing care onto the webpage http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/forensic_occupational_therapy/ If you go to the "files" page, you will find a folder for care pathways - the document is downloadable from there. You will see that there's not too much to it. Experience has shown that the less complicated the pathway is, the more likely it is realistic and achievable (both in terms of recording and compliance). I would say successful implementation depends upon clearly transmitting to staff the benefits of care pathways and allaying their fears. Several of the items on the care pathway I uploaded relate to the Clinical Standards Board for Scotlands standards on schizophrenia (you may well want different items). We have found care pathways to be a great way of demonstrating our compliance to these standards.I set up the care pathways folder so that other departments could upload their care pathways and we can all benefit from our pooled experiences.I hope this is of some use as a start.Eddie Duncan-----Original Message-----We're about to start writing a clinical pathway for our acute admissions
