Re: [forensic_occupational_therapy] Re: recovery model Vs MOHO
Hi Paul!
Thankyou for your input. I agree with what you are suggesting and in a lot of ways it confirms my understanding of the topic. I appreciate your time and effort in this matter.
Many thanks
Amrita

Hi
you made reference to 'recovery model'. In my opinion referring to 'recovery' via a model is often naive, which highlights how the phrase has been hijacked somewhat by government.
Recovery is facilitated and encouraged by the social and physical environment and by intervention, but essentially recovery is about the individual client and is unique to each client and relies upon what the client sees as recovery. Personally I believe that this is inextricably linked to the clients own perception of the quality of their life. This client centred approach is obviously not new to OTs.
A common 'recovery model' within the NHS is the Tidal model but I suggest most so-called models are frameworks as they are too inadequate in their explanation to be called models.
The principles of 'Recovery' are nothing new to OTs but we should take advantage of the fact that others are waking up to the idea that recovery is about the
client!
You can certainly tie in aspects of recovery with MOHO but you may find it easier to link in with CMOP as not only can you tie it in with environments but you can tie it in with the clients occupational performance and their perception of satisfaction - thus you have their perception of their recovery. Unless you actually recruit the clients opinion in respect of their recovery a recovery model, framework or whatever you call it cannot truly be about recovery, it can only be about the clinicians opinion - which defeats the whole point about 'recovery'.
