RE: [forensic_occupational_therapy] CALL FOR PAPERS - 6th National Forensic Occupational Therapy Conference

Hi Sharon

I certainly think you will find papers and seminars useful at the conference as
they will all relate to forensic issues. Networking with other OT's could be
helpful too.

Subject: [forensic_occupational_therapy] CALL FOR PAPERS - 6th National
Forensic Occupational Therapy Conference

Dear All,

Please find below details of the Call for Papers for the 6th National Forensic
Occupational Therapy Conference which will be held in Leeds at the beginning of
December 2004.

This year marks a new stage of development for the conference as it is now
being organized by the Forensic Occupational Therapy Managers Group in
collaboration with the Association of Occupational Therapists in Mental Health.
We hope that this new partnership will assist in future planning of the
conference and assure the conferences continuity for years to come.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and to seeing you in Leeds later
this year!

Best wishes

Dr. Edward A.S Duncan

On behalf of the 6th National Forensic Occupational Therapy conference
organizing committee

CALL FOR PAPERS

6th Annual National

Forensic Occupational Therapy Conference

“Defining Forensic Occupational Therapy”

Leeds.

1 & 2 December 2004

Introduction

Now in its sixth year, this conference is the major forum for occupational
therapy clinicians, researchers, managers, students, support workers and
educators with an interest in forensic care. The publication of the UK’s
first Forensic Occupational Therapy textbook last year has highlighted the
emerging significance of our contribution to forensic mental health care. This
conference offers the opportunity to:

1. Share our thoughts, feelings, experiences, hopes and aspirations for
the emergence of our profession as a focussed and effective clinical speciality
within forensic mental health care.

2. Share examples of how clinical practice has contributed towards an
understanding of your role and the definition of forensic occupational therapy.

3. Identify some of the obstacles that we may need to overcome in
building for the future growth of our speciality.

4. Present research related to forensic occupational therapy.

It is anticipated that we will hold a series of focus groups during the
conference to highlight issues that arise in the hope of creating, a shared
definition of forensic occupational therapy. This will be a unique opportunity
to contribute towards the growth of our profession. The conference will also
provide the ideal forum for colleagues to network, both formally during the
programme and informally.

Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are invited for papers (20 minutes) and seminars (1 hour). The
conference is recognised for the wealth of topics that are presented each year.
Presentations covering the conference theme are particularly welcome, but any
paper relating to forensic occupational therapy will be actively considered.

Abstracts should be submitted on disk or by email as an attached document to
the conference administrators in the following format:

* Title of presentation

* Full name of author

* Organisation

* Work address

* Abstract (250 words)

* Author’s biography (50 words)

* Preferred format (paper/seminar)

The closing date for submission of abstracts is 3 September 2004.

Abstracts should be saved as a Word of Rich Text File and sent via email or on
a disk by post to:

Professional Briefings,

120 Walton Road,

London

SW1V 1JZ.
