RE: [forensic_occupational_therapy] grab rails in secure units

I am aware that some companies make grab poles i.e. floor to ceiling which might be of help.  I don’t have the details but you could contact Lynn Waddell who is the disabilities co-ordinator at NHS Forth Valley, Bellsdyke Hospital, Larbert for that information.

Subject: [forensic_occupational_therapy] grab rails in secure units

Hi everyone.

I am trying to find out whether there is a manufacturer of grab rails that can be fitted safely in a low secure unit.  I am currently working with a patient who has balance and mobility difficulties and is consequently unsafe using his en-suite shower.  Within our MDT we have discussed the risks of fitting a traditional grab rail and shower seat that may provide potential ligature points, and I have subsequently been trying all kinds of search words in google to establish if there are any other options for secure units (without success).  Has anyone in the group had any experience of this in their units? or heard of any company that manufactures adaptive equipment in mental health secure units?

Any help, gratefully received.

Nicky

Hi. I'd agree with Carl about 'thinking outside the box. If the walls are thick enough, you could consider a recess rather than a grab- rail as such. There...

Hiya Carl I read your response to Nicky's posting regarding grab rail in bathroom. Even if the rail was built in ceramics it would still provide a possible ...
