Robin Hayter, who played Fritz in The Tripods, said the following about Anne Droyd and Century Lodge on the message board of The League of Freemen (the Yahoo Tripods fan community);
"...I want to tell you Will Hadcroft that I am enjoying reading about Anne Droyd very much. The descriptions of how kids actually think and take in everything around them is astonishingly accurate, at least that's how I remember it..."
This is very gratifying, to have a boyhood hero (I was 15 when Robin first appeared as Fritz in Series Two of The Tripods) praise something that I have produced some 20 years later in my adult life.
Look out for The Tripods in the upcoming BBC documentary series about British science fiction. The books upon which the series was based, The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, and The Pool of Fire (collectively known as The Tripods Trilogy) by John Christopher were an inspiration to me during my teens. They remain my favourites.
