Each to their own, I suppose. I'm very rarely a fan of the mainstream
Hollywood-produced cinema. There's too much dumbing down for my
liking, over-reliance on special effects, etc. Just look at what
they did to "I Robot": Will Smith and a bunch of cartoon robots
leaping around "Matrix" stlye. (I thought "The Matrix" was appalling
too, by the way. My girlfriend loved it but claims to hate science
fiction. Which says it all.)
I was incredibly alarmed to hear that Hollywood had got its grubby
hands on one of my favourite ever books, "The Prestige" by
Christopher Priest, and turned it into a film. Part of me is curious
and would like to see it - IF it remained faithful to the book, but a
bigger part of me is concerned that they will have ruined it.
